We've had this onefor DS1
and this onefor DD1
both great beds, you do need the toddler quilts and bedding (or a plain single cut in half )we've been very happy with them ds1 and ds2 have this it's like two full sized singles and not too high (our ceilings are only 200 high upstairs and DS1 can still sit up in bed)only thing is you have to get sheets from ikea or La redoute as they're 200 cm long which is as long as a uk kingsize

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 22:58

I have the one that folds down at either end

here and its great

had to put dd1 in a bed before she was 2, she broke her cot , and it was perfect as we put it up against the wall, the top and bottom are padded and put a mesh travel guard down the exposed side

we only dropped the bottom end this week in preperation for her getting a single and dd2 going into that one and dc3 getting the cot sometime later in the year

was a great buy

The matresses come in 3 sections so you can add a piece as you extend them Here they're foam, but TBH they are really supportive

PussinJimmyChoos · 06/06/2008 23:01

Oooh that's the sort of thing I'm after - would go with his room colours as well....I guess IKEA sell two type of matresses for it...have an IKEA right by me and will hopefully be going in soon so I'll let you know re the matresses if you want?

jamila I think you have the same one as me and if so I agree, has done dd1 very well since we got it

ours is white though, not pine like the pic

Are the foam matresses safe for them though? Don't they need to be breathable etc or can we dispense with all that now they are past SIDS at most risk age?

We had an older version ofthis one (slightly rounded head and footend, no other differences)for ds and then dd. After it had done ds and dd we passed it on to someone else who used it for their ds. So a solid little bed!

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:06

I never even considered that the only thing I would say is that I use the pampers bed mats under a sheet to save trying to sponge out accidental wee or vomit

jamila169 · 06/06/2008 23:22

They're fine at toddler age Puss, a lot of cot mattresses are foam, or contain foam anyway and the ikea ones have a cotton cover you can wash, and I use a Kylie mat under the sheet, much more comfortable than a plastic cover or disposable mat

dizzydixies · 06/06/2008 23:23

oohhhh jamila I may well just get one of those

I've been looking at the mothercare range - antique pine toddler bed and you can get coolmax matress which is important as DS gets pretty hot in the first few hours of his sleep....built in bed guards etc and then when he's big enough, he can move into a bog standard single bed that you can get anywhere - what do you think?

I want something low to the floor as I know DS will tumble in the early stages as he's a bit of a thrasher...am at the matress costs though! Mind you, his cot matress was a pricey spring one and its soooo comfy for him (doesn't stop him screeching out for dummy and binky at 3am though!! )...also, if its a toddler bed, its not as big and so makes the transition easier for him...or am I being too PFB??

Its amazing how they manage to find the smallest gap isn't it?!!

How is your DS btw? Mine was two a few weeks ago He's at the tantrum stage but that aside, am starting to have proper conversations with him and its so lovely - he's easy to lipread as well - was sooo worried I would have a toddler that I couldn't lipread and then I'd be up shit street!!

I know...I saw a friend's new born baby the other day and as I was holding him and I looked at DS - it hit me just how big he was now...I mean to me, he's still my baby and I don't think of him as that big but when you see them next to a new baby you are all at how big they have got...not to mention broody for no 2!! Wish could get this fecking weight off so could ttc no 2!
