Arch support Wellington boots?

Are there any Wellington boots for women or men really? I don’t care although I’m a woman with arch support? I have flat feet, hypermobility and a historical issue with very dislocatable right patella. The only thing that has really helped is shoes with proper arch support and I get on very well with sketchers arch fit. We have two dogs and I need boots for half of the year for the rainy season or for kids matches and some but normal Wellington boots that are completely flat I really struggle with. I know Wellington boots with arch support are more rare but Christmas is coming and I think my in-laws and my husband might be able to pull together to get me something decent that will obviously be used lots and lots. Any ideas?

I got Aigle parcours wellies and wear them with an insole - I've need arch support and have got arthritic bones across the top of one foot. They're not cheap but they're gloriously comfortable and have very good soles for walking miles in.

Get custom insoles made which will support your arches. You can then put them into any shoe you buy. You need to go up 1/2 or 1 side sometimes. Fallen arches can damage your knees/hips and insoles can prevent this.

Can I ask a potentially silly question? How do insoles actually stay stuck inside the shoe as you stride? I got a pair of insoles and stuck them in my existing wellies and they crunched up and twisted on to one side within ten steps

The insoles are made of firm material - they physically can’t scrunch up or fold or even move - even if you tried. From what you say it seems you are using a flimsy material. If you go to a proper shop where they do custom / ready insoles with arch support (and these are not cheap; they can cost £50-£500) then you’ll see the difference in material and comfort. I do find that they slip out of sandals and so I can only ever wear closed shoes. Small compromise for all my joints to stay pain free and to be able to walk again.
I’ll post a link if I can find some online.

I use the non-custom inserts from Boots which are fairly rigid and don't slip about in my boots, I have several pairs for all my boots so don't have to keep swapping them around. For sandals I find Birkenstocks are enough support.

Edited to add: initially I went to see a podiatrist because of plantar fasciitis who gave me a pair of off the shelf ones which really helped so I then bought ones the same after that, from Boots, this was years ago.

I have cerebral palsy and lots of problems with foot positioning. Not the same as yours, per say - my feet turn in and roll onto the inside and I have NHS custom made insoles to stop this happening. I find wellies are useless - they don't hold the insoles at all. However, my family and I do LARP (Live Action Role Play) which involves camping 4 weekends a year in a sometimes VERY muddy field. I went for some Royalscot Boots like this https://www.bchcamping.co.uk/products/royal-scot-nevis-boot-ladies?variant=44496898326802&country=GB&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=10013265974&gbraid=0AAAAADk6nrcAxfoZVfzemhjTnRk_aga3q&gclid=CjwKCAiAwqHIBhAEEiwAx9cTeZQrg6tPY3qYsYuAmaslPMZ3KFg9DDyE75Q9gRtcFr4UtRsmXj8X8RoCALoQAvD_BwE
I think they were about £70 in a sale and they are MUCH warmer and comfier than I have ever found wellies!

The problem with insoles in wellies can be getting your foot into the boot, as there is no zip. Depends how high the top of your foot is. I can't do it. And I got a huge achilles problem from wellies years ago. I have dogs - i wear Joya walking shoes instead.

EnchantingDecoration · 03/11/2025 20:18

I have high insteps, but my wellies are fine (Muckboot type). I also have narrow heels and that is much more of a problem with shoes as with the orthotics I can’t keep any shoes except trainers on my feet, brogues, DMs etc just flap off no matter how tightly I lace them. So I only really wear Birkenstocks, trainers and boots (i can go without arch support for the odd day or evening if I need dressy shoes).

I have Aigle Parcours which are very supportive and I can walk miles in them, I’ve also just bought a pair of short Merry People neoprene boots and they’ve been amazing. Comfy from the word go and also have a supportive sole.
Can you get to a country store to try some styles on? Where in the country are you?

fancytoes · 03/11/2025 21:44

Aigles Parcours with the scholl/vasyli moulded insole. Doesn’t move around.

Thanks all. I think I’d like one with built in arch support rather than rely on finding the right insole. I’ve got my other footwear sorted for example trainers, sandals, other shoes, perfect for my feet, so would just like the perfect wellies!!

I have just bought short fit flop wellies having fought insoles in wellies for years, they seem great - or I had success with leather riding books - dubarry/dublin river boot types!
