Going to Ikea next week (for the first time in years!) and the toys look particularly lovely - anything you'd recommend for a baby up to 1 year?

plastic stackable cups 90p.

dd (2) still plays with them in the bath - and they are small to take on holiday etc.

may be a little too young for them but... they will love it for years.

a set of metal pots and pans, etc. also includes a wooden rolling pin. about a fiver.

dd has always adored them for the lovely clinking noise they make and now 2yrs later she uses them properly when she is 'cooking'.

another vote for stacking cups
cost per play they have beaten everything in the house, including the plastic takeaway box full of lentils.

Their push-along truck - put it away till they're ready for it though

My DD (4 1/2 months) is very fond of her red hippo rattle. Indeed she much prefers it to the beautiful silver Tiffany one somebody gave her.

MrsBadger · 06/06/2008 13:44

oh if a tiny baby conisder also the mobiles and the rag books

do not buy cuddly toys though, however tempting.

Dragonbutter · 06/06/2008 13:44

stacking cups too!

MrsJamin · 06/06/2008 14:22

Why not the cuddly toys? My DS seems to quite like cuddly toys, but I guess you only need so many...
The mobiles look lovely, and at 4.99 such a good price. DS is 5 months now so will be past the rattle stage soon I think. The truck does look lovely... perhaps a christmas present to put away!

no cuddlies because they don't do anything and I bet you have quite enough already .

I have a very soft spot for the toy dept in Ikea because none of it needs batteries or makes ghastly electronic sounds...

The wooden stacking rings are quite nice - dd has my old Fisher-Price ones though.

Finger puppets are good value...

ninedragons · 06/06/2008 14:38

Ooh yes, finger puppets a big hit in our house. In a fog of pregnancy hormones, I bought the matrushka dolls (is that the name? - the Russian ones that fit inside one another) but they are very stiff to open. Not that she'll be interested in them for another five years or so.

geordieminx · 06/06/2008 14:40

We have stacking cups, finger puppets a wooden fram with beads on it..... and a yellow and red spotty camel

cheesesarnie · 06/06/2008 14:42

as Umlellala said the stacking cups are great.ours have done 3 children and the 8 and 7 year old still like them at bath time!

MrsJamin · 06/06/2008 17:12

I've already got some lovely stacking cups from M&S, but finger puppets sound lovely. Might stock up on some things as cheap presents for people having babies soon.
