Best toddler/child bed?

DS is looking like he will be vaulting out of the cot any day so thought would pre-empt it all and get a bed to put in his room for him to get used to and eventually use...

Help!

Also - can you still use a gro bag when they are in a bed? He's so fidgety I can't see him keeping a duvet on!

we just put DS1 into a single bed from his cot.
we will do the same with ds2
but I know lots of people use toddler beds..

Get that boy of yours trained up ready for the olympics!!

How old is he?

I'd go for a single bed as it'll last much longer. You can always put a guard along the side in the meantime.

He's two and imo quite tall for two...hmm..single bed sounds better...did you have to get any special breathable matresses or am I done with that? Also, what about grobags? I still think he'd benefit from being in one...

I meant using grobags with a bed iyswim...

dd used her grobag until she was nearly 3 I think. I didn't get a specific mattress although dd has to have an allergy cover on hers - severe asthma and allergy to dust mites.

What about the bed guards - are they pretty sturdy as DS a bit of a thrasher....am wondering whether an IKEA childs bed would be an idea as its very low so if he does take a tumble, not far to go...or can you get low single beds too?

We bought dd at daybed from Ikea which is quite low. You can put some pillows on the floor or an old duvet to break the fall. But if he's actually ready for a bed and there's a bed guard there I doubt he'd fall out. You may have 'wandering' troubles for a while though.

at DS wandering around...

Thing is, I've got a hearing problem so have all manner of gadgety things to hear/see him at night (the top of the chest of drawers has so much stuff on it flashes like Heathrow frigging runway!)and I worry about him pulling it over from the plug....only one plug in the room and its not hidden either...so, must get creative! lol!!

dd only wandered a tiny bit when it was novel. She soon got bored. And now at nearly 6-years-old she never gets out of bed. She lies there and yells for me if she needs something
