Sleepy Nico vs Ergo?

Bensonbluebird · 05/06/2008 15:32

and maybe vs a baby hawk too....

It's for toting a tall 13 month old on un-buggyable walks. I already have a framed backpack but wanted something small and packable to take on holiday that will still be comfortable for a couple of hours at a time.

I like both of these - think that a hood seems a good idea for sleeping and that these type of hybrid carriers with clips look easier to get on and off than a more traditional mei tai.

I'm swaying towards the Sleepy Nico, partly because it is cheaper but also because I want that apple!

Any advice?

never tried a sleepy nico but had several ergos which are great but not for a taller baby. I know yours is only 13 months so prob not applicable but there is a certain amount of leanability in an ergo because of the 'darts' you get in the seat of it. That said they are comfy and work well.
I say go for what you think looks pretty

BH are brilliant. I loved ours on hols as they fold up to nothing.

Bensonbluebird · 05/06/2008 15:50

Hum, thanks. Will inspect the seat of the Sleepy Nico for darts.

I have a very tall 2.5yr old and the Ergo works very well for us.

Would a toddlerhawk not be better than a BH for a tall child?

Also there is a new carrier similar to the Ergo but expandable (altho more ethical) called the Manduca slingjax.co.uk/catalog.php?category=64

Has to be said the Ergo & Manduca don't pack down as small as an MT or a Cwtshi www.cwtshi.com/ tho.

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 05/06/2008 17:25

tbh i am a shortie and i think the ergo sizing and my shortness and ds's longness meant that he could throw himself about rather a lot taking me with him.

Bensonbluebird · 05/06/2008 18:57

Thanks for the links Paddlechick - your're right, I should be looking at a toddlerhawk.

Do you have a Cwtshi? is it possible to get them on and off without a sofa or bed to lay the wee one on?

Mrsleroyjethrogibbs - I have that short me, tall child problem, I would look ridiculous if I carried my 3 year old around. DP is tall though, he can do any carrying around of the big one.

Benson, I do have a cwtshi and it's lovely. Unfortunately dd grew out of it very quickly. I had a custom made without the padding in the main body as we get quite hot otherwise.

I only used it for a back carry and I generally manage by tying at the waist then putting dd in a piggy back and bending over etc.

I'd be happy to loan it to you if you'd like to CAT me. Then you can try it out and see how you like them.

Bensonbluebird · 05/06/2008 20:57

Paddlechick, that's really kind of you. I think I've decided on a sleepy nico, I'm a sucker for a good print.

Paddle, was just wondering, if you ever decide to sell that cwtshi......

how much would it be?

Paddlechick666 · 06/06/2008 06:53

Well now, funny you should ask because I am going to sell to along with my Storch and a Freedom Ring sling. Just haven't got around to it yet!

I paid aboujt £60 I think and it's not been heavily used. I also have the waist bag that clips on to it.

I checked the site and the fabric isn't available anymore but it's an aboriginal design in a sort of burnt orange. The straps are stone.

I'm going away for the weekend today but if you CAT me I'll send a pic when I get back and you can make me an offer.

kiskideesameanoldmother · 06/06/2008 12:19

I was the one you did a swap with for the momtie. don't need pics. i have tested it!

give me details of your storch, pls.

will cat you.

I haven't tried the Ergo but I do have a SleepyNico and I think it is fabulous.

It is very comfortable, simple to put on and easily adjusted, and the sleep hood is very handy.

I've used it for hours at a time without any discomfort.

And it packs down very small into a little pouch supplied with it.

They do two sizes. I think you would want to go for the style with a longer back.

I like BabyHawks very much too but the Sleepy Nico scores in that you can put it on/take it off anywhere without having the straps trailing on the ground and getting grubby.

The sellers are very nice and helpful too.

If you are planning on back carries you might also be interested in the Calyx, available from:
www.mamagear.com

It's also a soft structured carrier but with this one you can strap the child in and then put it on, like a rucksack.

It is also gorgeous.

I've been told Ergos aren't so good if you're short.
