Have closed DH on a a play house for the garden for both of them but (dd1s birthday not till Feb) but now having cold feet as it is expensive and don't want to spoil them. Will they always expect something massive after this.

Also lovely MIL has put a play house up at their house just a month ago, and the girls love it. Don't want to steal their thunder.

Having said that I think 2 and 4 is perfect age for a play house so they will get most use of it if they get it now.

Anyone, got/seen/know of any wonderful long lasting, well loved toys......

No, they won't always expect something massive. It sounds perfect and great timing - get it

WendyWeber · 04/06/2008 22:45

Otherwise, re not stealing MIL's thunder, get a climbing frame - also hugely popular and also with years ahead of it - and get the play house next year

playhouse sounds great!

a few of my friends little toddlers have "wheelybugs" and rave about them....

Mmmm not really room for a climbing frame and only place it could go is on patio - so would be alot of accidents I think.

A swing would be nice but we haven't the right kind of tree.

WHAT about a play kitchen so they can use it all year

Flum · 04/06/2008 22:49

They are cute the wheelie bugs. I bought a wooden truck for dd1 when she was 2 though as it was awarded best toy by a magazine. Neither of them ever play with it. I think it is too wide to ride on and too hard to push along.

Bikes?

WendyWeber · 04/06/2008 22:50

Like-a-bikes, rather.

Or scooters.

Or prams.

What have they got already? Could you get a small indoor playhouse? Give us a clue....

Flum · 04/06/2008 22:51

mmmm play kitchen I like the sound of. Can't really think of a spot for it. We have got a plastic one that someone gave me as a handme down anyway.

I must admit I saw a retro red one once in GLTC and fell in love with it.

Or an indoor slide - we used to have a wooden one with a sort of climbing-frame-tower-ladder things.

WendyWeber · 04/06/2008 22:52

254897164563, may I call you 254?

loler · 04/06/2008 22:54

I was going to suggest a wheelybug too. We're going to get another one as my dc (3 and 4) fight over ours.

However, I don't think you would spoil them with a play house. Children of that age don't really understand about big presents/value of present - they just want what they want. Tell you MIL that as your dc love her playhouse so much you would like to get one too. I'm sure she wouldn't mind.

WW yes Our play kitchen has been played with by boys and girls for many years

Flum · 04/06/2008 22:55

we have doll buggies, slide in garden (which I hate to look at from my kitchen window), a sandpit, an indoor fairy castle thing that takes up loads of room but is too small for kids to stand up in.

We have some knackered little bikes, hand me downs.

We have a paddling pool.

What do your kids play with all the time??????

Get the play house. Can double as a store for all the outside toys!

Our wheelybug is in consant use apart from when I put it on top of the fridge to stop the fights! The other toys that are in constant use are plastic tat (eg McD happy meal type rubbish) - no accounting for taste
