Sofas - is there that much of a difference?

Looking at getting a corner sofa. The likes of Loaf we are looking at about 6k. Daals etc about 1.5.
Is there that much of a difference in quality? We can afford to go down the expensive route I just want to make sure it's worth it!!

Oh hell yes! Well made sofas last for years and years.

We bought a cheap one and it was completely shite in under two years - like our previous expensive one looked at 17.

Places like SCS (our terrible cheap one) have softwood frames with thin board little more than cardboard, covered with foam and then fabric. The seat cushions were flat in a year.

It was honestly one of the worst purchases we've ever made because we'd had such a good one before and the difference in quality was plain with a few weeks.

We've gone back to properly built pricey ones as better value over time

I have one expensive (hand made) sofa and one cheap DFS sofa. The difference is amazing. I could tell which is which blind folded. I’ve had the expensive sofa (it was just over double the cost of the other one) for 20years and it’s as good as new. I doubt it will ever need replacing. When the cheap one needs replacing I’m going down the hand made route.

Interesting. Can anyone recommend any companies please? Loaf reviews seem awful

We had several cheap sofas before we could afford to buy an expensive one (Ercol). The difference is amazing. Not only in the quality but in the comfort.

Interestingly, we had a dfs suite that lasted 15 years and was still solid when we got rid of it because we went off the style of it. Spent several thousand on a suite from an independent furniture shop and it’s a pile of crap.

We have G Plan and they are 8 years old, still look new. There is no dent in the cushions. I actually wished they had died because I am bored of them and the colour. There are electric recliners which I love, a 3 seater and a 2 seater, cost just over £4k but are the most comfortable sofas we have owned in 28 years of living together and buying sofas. Annoying Grin

Considering the frame lasts 20 years I am considering getting a quote to reupholster them. Replacing them would be £5k.

I’ve had really expensive sofas in the past.

Then I discovered Ikea. We’ve had a kivic sofa for 5 years now. It was under £400, still good as new and it’s the most comfortable sofa I’ve ever owned.
