Ok, this will be dc 4 so on the one hand feel reluctant to spend ££££££££££ on a travel cot, otoh, sick of crap travel cots in hotels etc. want something small and lightweight, ideally something that will last till baby is older & can double up when eg camping.

I was thinking of Nomad
www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/travel_bed_sand.html
seems great but £££ also not seen in Germany, only in UK, so would be more difficult to get.

Also seen this one www.amazon.co.uk/Littlelife-Twin-Arc-Travel-Cot/dp/B000PCVFMA/ref=pd_sbs_by_njs_title_4 which is a bit cheaper

Then saw this one in Germany, but as it's really 'pop up' wondered how it would cope with determined toddler or one who's learning to pull up to standing. ?
www.jako-o.de/produkt/de/produkt_detail.mb1?mb_f020_id=b9cyL2FamWAaLQDQHaH8&fag=d?=de&set=suc he&subset=suche&suchtext=reisebett&detail=on&gid=&sid=&pid=5017290&kid=&mbv301s=1&mbv301g=9& backsid=&backgid=&groupsortiment=&wmnr=92&mbv301_ch=62a21

And finally, is this a really insane idea - we already have one of these, www.jako-o.de/produkt/de/produkt_detail.mb1?mb_f020_id=QO-_l7Nc-QwaLQDQzQW8&fag=d?=de&set=suc he&subset=suche&suchtext=sonnen&detail=on&gid=&sid=&pid=5026637&kid=&mbv301s=1&mbv301g=9&bac ksid=&backgid=&groupsortiment=40654&wmnr=92&mbv301_ch=af63e and dinensions (except height) are similar. So wondering about just buying a matress separately and using this as travel cot. ? Or is that really stupid (fav. option tbh if people think it work?

I'd appreciate your thoughts, esp if you have one of these.

Well I have a Nomad and really love it - we used it for quite a while at home as DS was trying to climb out of his cot but wasn't quite ready for a bed, so we got our money's worth out of it.

However, the one you've already got looks fine. What's the worst that could happen? It wears out and then you have to decide whether to get another one the same or (if it wore out too quickly) get a heavier duty one.

FWIW the Nomad folds up small and light enough to strap to the top of a rucksack which is what we wanted it for. The stuff sack is big enough to put pyjamas and teddy in along with the tent, so we found it really handy like that.

You do have to have a special sheet on the Nomad because the mattress goes in a pocket so you have to button the sheet onto the floor of the cot. It's an added expense (or you can make an inferior one if you're cheap like me)

Does this help, or just make things worse?

ErnestTheBavarian · 03/06/2008 09:24

that's great, thanks for taking the time. I love the look of the nomad, and would just go ahead and get it. I guess being number 4 kid, I can't help but feel I've manged 3 kids without, and it is £100 give or take. Sheet tip good point. And I have that tent thing already. But I would have to get a maress anyway, which will be £35 ish... still, £35 isn't £100. hmmm
Plus, it's just more 'stuff' isn't it? but the nomad does look lovely.

would like to use the tent we've already got, just to save on accumulating more stuff, plus it would actually get used (barely been used since we got it) but thinking maybe too hot - not ventilated enough - and would have to adapt to make it escape proof, as only has velcro on door.
but
am due to give birth on Monday, so feeling rather tired, fuzzy headed and indecisive.

ETB - we bought a nomad for our 4th DC. It did seem like an expense at the time but I was so peed off with our old one which was great in situ, provided that you didn't want to actually errr.... travel with it.

The nomad is great. It is really light. It does come in three separate bags though (1 for cot, 1 for mattress and 1 for sleeping bag) so still does take up space, but they are squashier than an old style one, so fit much better in car boots etc.

It's slightly more time consuming to erect than a traditional one. But it gets easy enough after a few practices.

I've been delighted with ours. DD3 is 14 months and seems happy in it. DS (3) would sleep in it if I let him - it fits him easily. We camp, so will use it this year and then probably next year will use just the thermorest and sleeping bag, which is what our other DC have, so will get a bit more use out of it that way.

HTH

Oh and it's big enough and sturdy enough to get in it yourself and breastfeed a toddler to sleep, should you ever need to do such a thing...

mrsgboring · 03/06/2008 09:31

The Nomad that is again

LunarSea · 03/06/2008 10:34

Another vote for the nomad. And worth bearing in mind that the resale values are reaaly good if you Ebay it when it's outgrown.

jimbotri · 03/06/2008 19:07

We used the littlelife arc 2 for our ds , and then sold it on ebay and still got a good price back on it once he out grew it . They are superlight so great for holidays in the uk or abroad. I would be tempted with the littlelife arc three now though , just look a bit more roomy.

wotulookinat · 03/06/2008 19:24

We bought a Mamas and Papas one and it was fine for two uses but is now extremely hard to put up and just refuses to click into place. Not recommended.

pigsinmud · 03/06/2008 20:38

I have littlelife arc 3 and not that impressed. Strange shape and simply can not get a sheet to either fit or stay put. So we have dd2 making a rustling noise all night long. Only bought it for a holiday last year and haven't usd it since. Wished I'd gone for the nomad.

barbara3 · 04/06/2008 21:57

I have the little life one and think its fab (I love the fact I can put it up and down faster than dh) - been using it for 3 years now between dcs and have had no problems. Nomad looks similar but probably more up to date.

annwoo · 05/06/2008 10:22

Another vote for the littlelife arc 2.

gs · 07/06/2008 08:54

MY NOMAD HAS BEEN GREAT - I LOVE IT! oops was on caps lock then, is really easy to erect and packs to nothing and keeps in great condition.

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/06/2008 09:28

We have the Nomad. Dd is 2.4 and should still be able to use it for at least another year if we so desire.

I can't fit in it to breastfeed , but I suppose if you were very small yourself you could.

It's light and easy to take places, and pretty easy to assemble.

Eaglebird · 08/06/2008 19:58

I've got the LittleLife Arc 2 and it's great. Doddle to put up & take down, and it's light to carry. DS has always slept well in it when we've taken it on trips away.

pavlovthecat · 08/06/2008 21:44

Can I just ask something about the nomad which I think looks fab for camping.

If you use it in hotels, how do your children sleep? They are on the floor aren't they? Are they ok with this?
