Graco carseat newborn wedge?

I'm hoping for a bit of advice from anyone with a Graco infant carseat. Baby is due v soon now (days!) and I've just practised putting the seat in the car. It looks very upright - ie, baby looks like it's head would be lolling all over the place. My internet research suggests it should have a foam wedge under the cover for a newborn. We were given the seat second hand (I know, naughty naughty), with no wedge. I'm pretty handy and could knock something up: prob just a blanket folded would do it. But what should it look like? Should it smooth out the whole corner where the bum would go, to make a straight line from crotch to shoulders (where straps come out)? Or just soften the angle a bit - ie, lift the bum up? Any descriptions very welcome! Or, tell me where to buy one - if I spend any more time googling for one I'll go mad!

Thanks x

did you get the head hugger with it?

nothing should be under the cover

Impatience · 01/06/2008 20:23

Yes, there's a head hugger, but I'm worried about the head flopping forwards. Looks like babe will need a strap round the forehead to keep it up!

Do you have one of these? The little window shows only blue, so I know it's at the right angle, but I can't believe head is going to stay up - did your baby's?

is it this one?

ds1 had it, ds3 has one now. his head doesn't tip forwards in it, he was only 6lb 11 when he was born.

Impatience · 01/06/2008 20:30

yes, that's the one, tho' ours is a few years old now it looks exactly the same.

So your little ds3 was ok without any newborn cushion or anything? The instruction manual says to take out the foam wedge for older children: Are you sure your's doesn't sneakily have a wedge under the cover?! Mine has nothing under the cover.

just looked at the instructions on the graco site. There does appear to be a wedge there...?? I took the cover off my seat and there is only plastic, no wedge...maybe thats the difference between junior baby and auto baby..?? Mine is autobaby

Impatience · 01/06/2008 20:46

Aha! That second link looks like exactly what I need, thanks Pannacotta. I'm comforted by BD saying it's not a problem, but 12quid seems not worth quibbling over, especially since the actual seat was free.

Yes, BD, am in UK. I was on the US site for a while myself - SOOOO many seats that look exactly the same but for tiny variation. Was very relieved to find the UK site with just the one!

Thanks for your help ladies. Am both reassured and have a solution! What would I do without MN? Now we just need a name...
