Has anyone bought 'play' makeup for their dd? Where can i get some?!

DD is desperate for some make up for her birthday (she's 5yrs) Whilst I am totally opposed to makeup on children (just to make that clear!) I don't mind her having some to play around with at home. I've seen lots in claires accessories but they had warnings like 'if cause irritation cease use' on the back and although she doesn't have particularly sensitive skin I don't want rash-inducing crap if possible. Any ideas?

Would you be able to get away with some face paints in a pretty case?

lljkk · 01/06/2008 18:43

Must confess..., I just bought basic cheapo makeup for 6yo dd in a local drugstore (or rather, she bought it using her pocket money).
She has slightly sensitive skin, but hasnt reacted (eye shadow, lipstick, nail polish).
It's not like she wears it every day (more like 2x/month). She puts more nail polish on her baby brother & me than on herself .

Tesco does a cheap set in the toy section and the colours don't come out too garish (very disappointing for dd2 )

tigertea · 01/06/2008 18:44

Well - might be still selling it - just haven't looked!!

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 01/06/2008 18:48

I think it needs to look like makeup iykwim rather than face paints. Tescos is my first port of call then. Otherwise maybe just a cheapy 'real' set is the way forward. Gaaaah, girls!

you can get some bits in boots natural collection range

Seona1973 · 01/06/2008 19:52

boots do young girls make up - glitter babe or something. I have also bought little make up sets from Adsa, Tesco, etc. DD doesnt use them all that much but the colours are all really pale anyway.

Barnical · 01/06/2008 19:54

we got cheapy stuff... when dd wanted it.. she went for the primary colour selection!! ( and likes to make up her dolls.. and her daddy who protests greatly!! LOL)

play make up doesn't have any more 'wholesome' ingredients than ordinary make up
