About to finally take the plunge and get a DS lite for DD but know nothing about consoles etc, have searched a few threads and the games which seems to have the thumbs up are Animal Crossing, Big Brain Academy, Nintendogs and Cooking Mama... are there any others I should look at that your DDs enjoy? I havent the first clue what I'll need to buy other than the console... but which games and accessories? Thanks.

dd likes Crayola Treasure Adventures.

It's pretty easy, but she still enjoys playing with it.

imagine babies, my sims (not the sims, which is aimed at an older audience), pippa funnel (which is like a virtual pet game with horses), cooking mamma and imagine babies are dd1s favourites atm

I think I agree, which although I have posted 'taking the plunge' is why I really cant decide whether to buy one or not... I think I will but then again, given that her birthday is tomorrow, I am not exactly rushing to the shops.... indecisive as usual!

Just got my 6 year old niece Zoo Hospital, and she loves it. She also got nintendogs, which is great.

Accessary wise, probably just a case to keep it in.

I got my son's DS from Gamestation and I purchased the insurance for £12.99 (for 2 years), which has been well worth it. After 2 weeks of having it, water got spilt by accident and it stopped working. Gamestation replaced it with a new one (although I didn't mention the water part

You should get it. My kids love theirs and they don't playt with them excessively.

Great for car trips and holidays etc

My dd (age 8 ) loves the Little Mermaid Game that we got in a package from Toys R Us.

We took it camping with us for the first time and as it was raining (all the time) she actually used it more than i thought she would - we do limit it's use though - both dd's are currently making a 'creation' out of Play Mais.

micci25 · 01/06/2008 14:14

my dd doesnt really play with hers that much but they do come in handy for long car trips, sleep overs at her nans as it keeps her occupied a while, tbh i play with hers more than she does.

My son loves his. He plays only now and then. We have certain rules, like only playing at the weekends, and not for more than 15 minutes at the time. (Except for wednesdays, when they are allowed to bring their DS to afterschool club and the kids hook up and play multi player games, etc)

He borrowed Zelda from a girl in his class. Super Mario is equally popular with girls and boys.

Invest in screen protector! Also, get a carry case where you can also store a few games chips in, good for travel.

Twiglett - what do you think is the right age (or is there one)?

Twiglett · 01/06/2008 18:31

don't ask me earlybird

I have one .. I allow DS (7) to play with it at the weekend when he's finished his homework IF we remember about it .. so I'm a bit of a feckin' hypocrite .. he has Shrek game and that's all ... I'd like to think 9 would be the earliest he has his own

I have a ds which my dd uses.
She is 4.

She loves the Donkey Kong racing game, super mario and the I did it mum game but I think that will be too young for a 6yr old.

She wants a disney princess game next {{{{shudder}}}}

We've just got one for DS 4th B day. He wanted one as his older brother has one. I would never have got one for DS1 at 4 but the younger one is just into way more grown up stuff with an older brother.

The 4 year old actually enjoys it more than the 7 year anyway!

I don't think it matters what age they are, as long as their playing in moderation.
