We need a three wheeler pram for off road walks!

We rather foolishly got rid of out M&P three wheeler pram which was great for country walks and holidays - went to a farm park today and struggled with the buggy up the grass, etc.

Any recommendations before I buy the same pram again off Ebay!!

Jane Powertrack 360, Jane Matrix or Out N About Nipper 360. All fab 3 wheelers.

Dragonbutter · 30/05/2008 21:31

what horse said.

hatcam · 30/05/2008 21:33

Phil & Ted's - ours has done sooo many miles (I run a buggy fitness class and have a massive dog that needs far too much walking) and nothing has broken yet. It's been to Europe, the States and Africa and I run with it too, looks a bit shabby now but apart from that it's fab.

what's a buggy fitness class?

andyrobo237 · 30/05/2008 21:37

We have a Jane Carrera which is great, but not an off-roader - I am tempted by the Janr 3 wheeler - will have to be second hand. I like the P&T but my brother has one, so that is not an option for now!

Keep them coming!

Mountain Buggy every time. Search the archives and you'll not find a bad word said about them!

hatcam · 30/05/2008 21:46

Dragonbutter - Buggyfit, it's an outdoor class for mums and babies in pushchairs/buggies, lots of of power walking sometimes jogging (optional not obligatory), strength exercises, abdominals work, boxing.

Quite sociable, good fun but will definitely get you fit without having to resort to expensive gyms/boring treadmills/creches etc

SparklyGothKat · 30/05/2008 21:50

my baby jogger that I am selling

Dragonbutter · 30/05/2008 21:54

i want a buggyfit class. where can i find one?

hatcam · 30/05/2008 21:57

www.buggyfit.com

And we're not weirdy-hyper-too happy-shiny-gym bunny types. Quite normal.

Dragonbutter · 30/05/2008 22:29

I've just emailed them. There are no classes locally but I would love to start one. It sounds really good.

Swedes · 30/05/2008 22:32

Britax Trekker - They are 2 year old model so some going brand new and cheap at Britax dealers and on ebay (about £80 I think). I have one and it is really brilliant for muddy walks.

hatcam · 30/05/2008 22:33

It's fab, I really enjoy it - have been running the classes since my daughter was about 4 months. Have met some great people, lost the baby weight and made a good bit of extra cash too. Let me know how you get on.

Dragonbutter · 30/05/2008 22:36

What fitness qualifications do they accept?
i am a qualified physiotherapist and also did a years internsip in personal training in the states (but no qualification from that).
How much time do you put in?
And how much do you charge for the classes?

lisad123 · 30/05/2008 22:37

Mountain Buggy everytime

onelittlelion · 30/05/2008 23:53

MB for me too!
Or Jane or the Nurse Dakar on ebay is made by Jane and seems a bargain!

hatcam · 31/05/2008 09:50

dragonbutter - Usually they need a recognised Level 2+ gym instructor qualification (I think) and they do some training themselves. If you're already an instructor/trainer and have an accredited pre/post natal qualification you can skip their training. Speak to Emma Redding though, she's great and I think given your physio qualification and experience she would be very willing to consider it.

It's a licencing operation, you pay an annual fee - I made mine back very quickly - then it's really up to you. My daughter comes with me most of the time (she's 21 months, bribed with raisins and breadsticks to sit in pushchair) so I can make some extra cash without paying the nursery fees.

At the moment I run 4 classes per week (summer is busy) and I put in quite a lot on top of that in local marketing, PR and enquiries etc. I've spent a lot of time really getting to know the local health visitors and midwives and go and do talks at all the mother & baby clinics, which is a really good way of getting people along.

It works well for the rest of my business though, I'm a PT specialising in pre and post natal, so I often get clients from Buggyfit - I also write for a couple of magazines on post natal fitness so it all helps.

I've had more around 250 mums and babies come to classes in the first year, met loads of great people (occasional grumpy snooty mare) and really enjoyed it. Still doing at now at 6 months pregnant and not planning on stopping any time soon!

If you want, contact me directly via the Buggyfit website, I cover Windsor & Ascot. If you're not miles away you're very welcome to come to a class (for free obv) to see what it's like.

Not working on commission, not related to Emma - just love my job!

Dragonbutter · 31/05/2008 10:02

thanks hatcam.
i'm getting quite excited at the prospect of this and can't believe i've never heard of it.
i worked as a physio for a few months in obs and gynae too doing lots of ante and post natal stuff. I'll see if Emma Redding would accept a reference from the senior womens' health physiotherapist as proof of my experience.
My LO's are now 3.5 and 1 and i'm feeling ready to get back to getting busy again.
i'll let you know how is goes with Emma.
Thanks
DB

no prob. think she's away on hol at the moment but is still looking at her email, also there's someone going into her office to sort stuff out.

good luck!

MOthercare urban detour is a good budget one and easy to put up/down. Fit through front doors too, some of the 3 wheelers are wide in my experience.

horsemadgal · 31/05/2008 21:27

Doh! How could I forget Mountain Buggy!

ready4anothercoffee · 31/05/2008 21:35

I love my double mountain buggy, and my friend has a single which is equally fab. they are relativly compact when folded too...

andyrobo237 · 31/05/2008 21:40

I feel a trip to the pram shop coming on - hen a swift look at Ebay - like the look of the Jane one but it seems rather big!!

just watching a m&P one that is less than 5 miles from home - would be great if got that for a tenner!

No experience of the Mountain Buggy, but Phil&Ted pushchairs are far better than Jane ones for proper off road use, IMO. Jane have better suspension, fab brakes, and are much better built, but the wheels on the Phil&Ted are vastly superior (particularly if you remove the mudguard).

Think I'd get something cheaper though if it was just for occasional use.
