What do you want from a sling is the first question to ask!
If you want quick easy portability for short trips in and out of car then it looks fine, (it's basically a pouch, yes?) they are comfy, ridiculously easy once you have the hang of them.
If you want something for long walks/trips/shopping then something with 2 shoulder support would be better, a Mei Tai is easier to get the hang off and a wrap is comfier (some say) for longer carries.

Have never tried it but it looks good!

Have you tried the slingmeet website? it will put you in touch with babywearers near you so you could try out and look at different carriers up close, might be worth a try?

oohhh thank you chirpygirl I never used one with dds but feel it may help reduce the perpetual chaos going on here if I try with this one

am not really sure of them though so wanted advice before I dipped my toe in so to speak

Ooh ooh I use one!!

To be honest, if there were a next time round (which there won't be) I would get something different. The problem is that all the weight goes against your neck - the strap is padded by it still makes your neck ache in no time at all.

I have also made a ring sling which is much better - this distributes the weight over your shoulder and is much much more comfortable.

For a newborn I would get a Close carrier. For a toddler which I have now the ring sling does the job perfectly.

Like these ring slings

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 20:40

ladies am loving the recommendations but dd1 was 10lb4 and dd2 was 11lb1 so am on track for a 12lber and need something that will give good support

do you think its possible or am I deluding myself?!

I'm carrying my 30lber round now in a ring sling! I can easily carry him around town for an hour without any discomfort.

ChirpyGirl · 28/05/2008 20:44

Didn't realise the support isn't over your shoulder, in that case a ring sling might be better or a better deisgned pouch.
These are also good and quite reasonably priced.
I carried DD1 in a ring sling or a mei tai until she was 16/17 months and the only reason I stopped was cos then I was 7 months pregnant and her legs didn't fit over my stomach!

Trust me, she was a lot more than 12lb at that point

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 20:45

30lber

I take it you didn't give birth to a 30lber?!?

PuppyDogTails · 28/05/2008 20:58

Er no!

He was a mere 7lb when he was born but has hit 30lbs by his first birthday!

Ring slings for toddlers are great - they're dead easy to use which is quite important when they want to be picked up put down picked up put down picked up put down etc etc.

DS hated it though when he was tiny - he wanted to be upright and seeing what was going on, but the ring sling didn't give enough support. I think the Close looks like it would have been perfect.

ChirpyGirl · 28/05/2008 21:07

In fact if you look on my profile there is a pic of me with 2yr 2 month (extremely pissed off) DD1 in a ringsling.
(She wouldn't stop trying to run off, I was using the RS as reins so when she started doing the 'boneless collapse' thing I put her in this!
It wasn't hugely comfy as the shoulder is a bit high but I carried her for about half an hour wiht no probs (apart from having my hairpulled....)

dizzydixies · 28/05/2008 21:14

chirpy you have two gorgeous girls
