Who does the best blackout roller blinds? We bought one from Argos and it's rubbish, really hard to use and breaks easily. Are other makes any better? How about John Lewis? Thanks

John Lewis are good, in terms of quality of materials, ease of use etc. Needs to be fitted so that it lies flush with the window to be really effective. We've got identical JL blinds in 2 bedrooms, one (where it was fitted well) is pitch black, the other isn't.

I was told that HIlarys black out blinds are good and I think they come and fit too. No personal experience.

Thanks - budget is tight so I'll get something I can fit myself. Any other recommendations please?

Weve got the white Ikea ones. Cheap but you still get a small amount of light round the sides but this dosent bother us.

we have just put up these in 2 rooms (for under Argos black out blinds which let in loads of light) and they are fab! You get a proper black out as they fit around the wondow frame as opposed to being set in a little bit....easy blinds

Dunelm - cheap, small amount of light around the edge but with curtains (with blackout lining) in front, works for us.

mrsshapelybottom · 28/05/2008 19:54

DA thank you sorry for re-hijacking

AllBuggiedOut · 28/05/2008 23:16

Thanks all

MrsSB - do you take them down every day?

And good to know the Ikea ones are sturdy. How about Dunelm's - will they withstand my 4 year old using them less-than-carefully?

ABO - you can take them down every day (it's only a 2 second job though) but we just unstick the bottom half and hook it over the roller blind which is already on the window! We have gained an hour of extra sleep in the mornings thanks to these blinds

We've got the black Ikea one - it's very dark (which not all the dark coloured ones are) but it does keep falling out of the bits it sits in iyswim.

However, since we bought it, our early-rising ds has been sleeping like a log.

Definately Ikea. Bought one on Tuesday and has been fab for the past two nights

We bought two from Dunelm Mill and they are excellent. Good choice of colours and sizes which is a bonus too.
