Garden furniture I can leave out in the rain: wrought iron maybe?

Anyone got wrought iron? Is it a good buy? Any other recommendations?

We have a bit of shed space so can store folding wooden furniture but are slightly lazy about putting it away .....

As well as a table and chairs we do also need a bench and are more likely to go for wood for this - what kind is best?

We had a glass topped table and 6 folding 'textureline' I think they are called, chairs, from Tesco. Loads of places sell them. About £100 a set.

There is wood that weathers really well. Teak?

LadyOfWaffle · 25/05/2008 17:18

My mum has wooden and treats it every year or so. She just puts it away every winter. Iron is good too, but will need regular treatments also or will rust.

expatinscotland · 25/05/2008 17:19

i think i'd go for a teak or something that wears well before i went for iron.

that needs maintenance just like any other materials besides some resins.

maidamess · 25/05/2008 17:19

Yep, glass topped was fine! The rest of it was metal.

franch · 25/05/2008 17:36

Argg, sounds like there's no such thing as garden furniture for lazy types ...

this range is very durable but ££££

QuintessentialShadows · 25/05/2008 18:13

Not sure I would go for teak, considering it is not from a renewable source, but on the endangered list I think.

You can get pine furniture in a honey stain that looks like hardwood and have been pressure treated to withstand bad weathers.

franch · 25/05/2008 18:14

Ah - will check that out quint

There is an aluminium range that is actually made to look like woven furniture - really nice and light to carry - although it's fine left outdoors.

For anyone near Telford, there is a brilliant outlet type warehouse on Stafford Park, where for product of that quality, the prices are superb.

WendyWeber · 25/05/2008 18:45

Wrought iron rusts, you know! (I have a fence...)

But you can get wrought aluminium that looks like wrought iron - lightweight and non-rusting. Will look for a link.

WendyWeber · 25/05/2008 18:48

Here!

(It's cast, not wrought, apparently - looks like wrought though )

WendyWeber · 25/05/2008 18:50

aluminium bench too but I think wood would be nicer to sit on.

tassisssss · 25/05/2008 18:50

we have wood of the £100 from argos variety for decent sized table and 4 chairs. we leave it out all summer and take in for the winter. treat it every spring. it's on its 4th summer I think.

franch · 25/05/2008 18:52

That's lovely ww. I was thinking black tho - and need a dining table for 4

Aha - look here, franch - lots of aluminium garden furniture, different styles, sizes and colours

janeite · 25/05/2008 18:55

I've got this but in a creamy colour and it's fab. Mega expensive though. I didn't buy it - I won it!

Teak

Very hard-wearing

Lots of them on Ebay

franch · 25/05/2008 19:41

Ooh yes that's lovely but pricey janeite - this one is lovely too from the site you linked to WW and slightly cheaper

Think I'll go teak for the bench barky, once i've done my research to check it's not endangered

OP posts:
franch · 25/05/2008 19:42

Oh b*gger, the one from WW's site is out of stock

franch · 25/05/2008 20:50

I thought what I was looking for was so standard, it'd be easy to find!

OP posts:
franch · 25/05/2008 21:08

This isn't bad I suppose - closest I can find at the moment - not overly excited tho
