Kids wetsuit experts if they don't fit exactly right are they not worth getting?

My son has no arse(lucky him) so the suit that fits his height is baggy round the tackle area. Our surfing friend says as long as torso fits ok it'll be ok,he has no kids though so please advise.

Depends what it's for really but I'm sure it'll be ok. both my ds's have baggy bums with no problems

moopymoo · 21/05/2008 13:12

should be fine. we all have them and they dont fit perfectly. it is marginally warmer if they are snug all over but the water that does get in warms up quickly. unless you are going scubadiving somewhere really really cold then no probs.

ib · 21/05/2008 13:13

The key is that it should be snug around the seams so the water doesn't circulate too fast - the water gets trapped and warmed by the body and that's what keeps you warm.

We live near the sea so spend most of the summer on the beach now the dc are 4,4 and 3 they'll be in and out of the water more, for whole days some times. Previous to this they just toddled round rock pools.

Are they worth it? Is it noticable how much warmer they are in them ie no blue faces after a couple of hours? It's just having to buy 3,don't want to be kicking myself.

Don't think we'll be scuba diving yet

If that's the case Mila Tescos direct sell them really cheaply.

MilaMae · 21/05/2008 16:15

Ingles could you do a link as can't find them,am typing in wetsuits,do they call them something else?

OP posts:

certainly they do full length too

KristinaM · 21/05/2008 19:32

the other thing that helps if its windy is a windproof layer (like a waterproof shell) on top of the wetsuit. stops the wind cooling teh water trapped in the suit

2 of my 3 LO are skinny and the suits still make a diference

Cappuccino · 21/05/2008 19:35

ingles thanks so much for that link I have been looking for a new full length one for dd1

in terms of warmth - my dd1 has bad circulation due to disability and they make a massive difference to her

she could never go in the sea without one

kittywise · 21/05/2008 19:42

They def make a big differnce even when ill fitting

MilaMae · 21/05/2008 19:59

Thanks for the link Ingles. Encoraging advise. Think I'll have to bite the bullet

my 2 wear those short leg and sleeved ones and it takes hours before they go blue with cold. For the past 3 years we have got them for £10 from Home Bargains...
My 2 go swimming in rivers, boogieboarding at beach etc.

Surfermum · 21/05/2008 20:10

Definitely make a difference. I first got one for dd when she was 18m as she got cold before she got fed up at the beach. She was never happier than when she was sat in a rock pool! Hers was big at first and it was fine, still did the job.
