Advice please! Maclaren Quest or Techno XT

DS is nearly 14 months and we've never bought a buggy (have a really clunky old freecycle one for super-occasional heavy shopping trips).
DH loathes the idea of them.
He's 6'4", I'm 5'10".
We don't have a car so use public transport all the time, walk, cycle etc.
I want the option of a buggy - DS is a big lump to carry in a sling all day now!

Quest appeals because: it's cheaper, it's lower-tech (don't need it to go flat now he's big), it's lighter.

BUT Techno XT has adjustable handles, and I've always HATED pushing pushchairs because they make my back ache. Is the (I think quite small) adjustment worth the extra £60 or so, and 2kg extra etc.? Are the Techno wheels that much better than the Quest?

(I want to order one today, I've had really bad backache this weekend, and DH is going away for a week, so I need options!)

I am 5ft 11 and I loved my XT-however,it is heavy.Easy to put up and down but heavy to lift.
I loved the fact it would lie flat as I hoped dd would nap in it on occasions when needed.
Sorry I can't compare to a Quest but I did love my XT.

I have the Maclauren Mod Quest in pink and love it. Its so light, and very easy to puch (can quite easily push with one hand. But then I am not tall.

Could you go into a mothercare and ask to try them out? I know my one will let you and its good to test drive so to speak!

fannybanjo · 19/05/2008 19:14

Would go with the XT especially if you are so tall, I am 5fit 6in (tiny I know) but with heels on (this making me 5ft 9) I struggle with my Quest. Also if you are going to use it for a few years you will get more wear out of it. I have a Bugaboo with an adjustable handle and it makes such the difference being able to adjust. If you can afford it, go with the XT, far superior pushchair and if I could have convinced DH that after spending £600 on a Bugabo that spending another £160 on a pushchair was a good idea, I would have gone for it! Sadly I couldn't!

The XT is so lovely to push and better than the Quest in many ways. My Quest made may carpal tunnel syndrome play up as it seems to be a bone shaker compared to the XT. Also, my size 8 trainers hit the back of most buggies, but not the XT, the height is great and I do not think they are heavy, the ease of pushing makes up for any extra weight IMO.
Large hood and sunshade are brilliant too on the XT, I have to have good shades with ginger daughter!

We have an XT-still going strong after 4 years and has only needed a new hoold (due to DD's pulling it too much!). Great, can't praise it enough, I don't find it heavy but have no experience of other buggies either. I think the buggy my Mum has at her place is a Quest, if so there's no comparison...better wheels, handles etc on the XT. HTH

XT deffo, its a great buggy! Well worth the extra. the sun visor and full fold down hood that zips back are also especially good in sunny weather, and reclining positions are very comfy so my DD informs me! HTH. Happy buggy pushing!

I know I am a day late on this but we have techno XT too. DH is 6'3" and we have the handles at full height.

I like the suspension on it, we actually sold our travel system and replaced it with this and we are now using it with ds2 4 years later.

It is very easy to steer, and I don't find it heavy to lift.

Shopping basket is naff though as you can't fit much in, the recline takes a few goes until you realise where the positions are but it is a fab buggy. Love mine.

Fizzylemonade · 20/05/2008 10:31

Oh an ds2 is now 2 and still has room to grow into it so it will last you until they no longer need a buggy.

Don't bother buying the footmuff as it is very short, ds1 and ds2 were out of it before 15 months!!! As you and your DH are tall I can't see it being worth buying, just use a blanket when it gets colder.

Fantastic, thank you so much!
I am the world's most reluctant shopper, and this has finally made me make my mind up - ordered a Techno XT from Boots (?!) online last night - seemed the cheapest place to get it.
Many thanks, much appreciated!

You won't be sorry - they are fab.

littlefrog · 23/05/2008 21:36

got the xt today and took ds to the shops in it. He put up with it ok (he's never been a pushchair baby), I thought it was fantastic! Handles great when fully extended, I didn't kick it all the time as I did with the old mamas and papas one we had from freecycle, it turns on nothing. The tiny basket is a menace, but hey, I'm used to carrying everything PLUS a baby, so I shouldn't complain!
Thanks for advice.

I love my XT, it's a bit worse for wear now but still going strong.
