Vinted shoppers.

Is it just me or are vinted shoppers getting worse with shocking offers?

I seem to have had lots of direct messages rather than official offers. Had a woman message me asking if I would sell a bundle of items total £62.00 for £15.00. I messaged back saying I'd accept £50.00 best price and the tirade I got back was shocking. She had like 2000 and odd reviews too. I reported and blocked her, knowing nothing will ever come of it.
I have had around 15 direct questions this week all similar, I don't know what's going on.
God loves a trier but my items are fairly priced already and I'm happy to accept genuine offers but these people are trying me. But 75/80% lower are just CF's.

Rant over 🥰

I probably buy more than I sell, but I have been surprised the other way round. There seem to be more sellers bumping up prices - no, I'm not spending £15 on your worn high street dress. Its fine, because there is so much on there that you just move on to the next thing. I'm sorry that you have had direct messages with people being rude though - there is just no need.

ThejoyofNC · 09/05/2025 13:49

I agree with PP that people are asking way too much for stuff on there now. Recently had a look for a certain pair of shoes, they're online brand new for £40 in several places and all the BNWT ones on vinted are the same price. With added fees and no returns policy it would be mad to buy them.

But in answer to your OP, I haven't had any messages like that. I do get low ball offers and just decline them. I never bother to counter offer to someone who's offered me half of what I've listed for.

SpiralSister · 09/05/2025 13:51

I find most people are lovely, but there are some right chancers too. No, I don’t want to drop £4 on an £8 item, because you have to pay for shipping. It’s already a bargain and I’ve had 68 people favourite it. Jog on.

SpiralSister · 09/05/2025 13:53

From the other side, I only offer if the item has been up for months and seems a little overpriced. For example, I offered £18 for a £20 item. Came back with 50p off. Honestly, just decline the offer and move on with your day! 😂

footpath · 09/05/2025 13:59

I think it has got more expensive but actually think the offer has got better too.

PrawnAgain · 09/05/2025 14:04

As someone who both buys and sells on vinted I think people take it all way too personally. People are free to offer ridiculously low prices and sellers are free to decline then. Sellers are allowed to have high prices, buyers can just scroll past it it's too much.

If anyone annoys me I just block them and I pre-emptively block people who I think will annoy me.

Dreamerinme · 09/05/2025 22:11

My best one was I was selling some brand new Nike Air trainers for £30 and someone offered me £4 for them. I didn’t bother responding but hours later someone bought them for full price - obviously realising they were a bargain price.

Some people are realistic with their pricing or offers, others not. I ignore outrageous offers but thankfully I don’t get them often as I price to sell.

I had this this week. I am fairly new to vinted and am selling some lovely either new or little worn items. I've listed them fairly conservatively price wise as they will go to the charity shop if not sold. But no with 30 watchers after 3 hours I'm not accepting half price offers. I do email politely and say why. The potential buyers rarely reply. But all of those items sold within 24 hours at a max 10% discount, so my pricing must be cheap to reasonable.

If 68 people have favourited it and no one has bought it, that’s because it is overpriced.

Not that's a good offer 10%. Seems fair.

Nonsense. It went for full price 10 minutes later.

LavenderBlue19 · 10/05/2025 07:01

I just ignore them. Some people are weird, and that includes on Vinted. If they keep messaging I block.

I make cheeky offers sometimes, especially on bundles. (Not ridiculous, but more than 20%.) I figure you never know if someone is keen to get rid, or just wants the best price. Personally I'm more likely to accept if I'm going to the post office already that day.

I agree prices seem to have gone up though. I wonder if it's because so many people are aware of it now, the bargains go very quickly?

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 10/05/2025 07:03

I had similar weirdness lately.

I listed a popular dress from a popular brand (£100 new) for £20.
it had been worn 2-3 times and was as new. Similar were selling for £30-50 but I just wanted it gone.

I pottered off and came back to see it was sold in a hour, 200 views and 35 likes or something.
I also had about 8 offers. one was just a message asking if id sell for £5 😅
Then I'd had follow up messages with abuse from one as she was angry it had sold before i had accepted / rejected and she couldnt haggle?
Another one really desperately loved and wanted the dress (offered £18) and asked if id cancel my sale and sell it to her for £25 as she so desperately wanted it... 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫
You could have bought it for £20!!

Gundogday · 10/05/2025 07:15

I admit, I do add a couple of pounds, as I expect a an offer, so I may put something up for £12 expecting to sell it for £10.

footpath · 10/05/2025 07:18

it had been worn 2-3 times and was as new.

did you list as new or very good condition?

FreddysFingers · 10/05/2025 07:24

Blimey, that's well cheeky! And to give you abuse afterwards because you wouldn't sell for a stupid price is beyond disgusting. Sounds as if they've never been told 'no'!

I do put cheeky offers in, but we're talking offering £25 when the item is £30 or something, for that £62 bundle I may have chanced offering £50, and if you came back at £55 I would buy - not sure if I'm going to get flamed for this analogy, but in my eyes that sort of bargaining seems fair? Offering £15 for that £62 bundle is just taking the piss.

Vinted is a bit like the wild west, you don't get the buyer protection you get on Ebay, however I've never had a negative experience when selling. I was sold a counterfeit item which I then had to return - and pay for postage which was a bit naff, but other than that, all my purchases have been smooth. I'm sorry you had that experience!

SparklyGlitterballs · 10/05/2025 07:26

My late husband was a bit of a shopaholic for trainers and shoes. I put loads of them on Vinted, way below original price but not silly money like £5 for almost brand new Nikes. I too will add a few £, expecting an offer, but then you get the ridiculous ones. Some guy came on asking silly money for a pair of expensive Nikes worn once. I counter offered with something a bit below my price and he kept coming back with 50p increments on his low offer. I kept rejecting and he angrily messaged asking why I wouldn't accept his offers. I told him because I don't have to, and he can just move on and search for something else if he wasn't happy. The trainers sold for just a couple of £ under asking later that day.

28Fluctuations · 10/05/2025 07:43

Some sellers have no sense of value and pricing. And the number who will list something as 'new without tags' if it's been worn... That's very good condition ffs. List and price accordingly.

DontReplyIWillLie · 10/05/2025 07:48

People shouldn’t be trying to circumvent the rules by private messaging with offers more than 40% below the asking price. However, it does annoy me when sellers get stroppy if you make a low offer within Vinted’s parameters. If you’re going to be offended by low offers, do not list on a platform that allows offers of up to 40% below asking price!

Lovelysummerdays · 10/05/2025 07:51

I buy from vinted but only bargains, I don’t quibble straight to buy now.

I really just want to pay 10-20% of new price for something in good condition. Lots of people will put a £80 dress on that they wore a couple of times thst now sits in the wardrobe for a tenner. I feel like that’s my level. There’s lots of this sort of stuff in akongst the more expensive bits. Just filter by price, size, acceptable brands.

Doggymummar · 10/05/2025 07:58

I sell on VINTED, eBay and Whatnot. VINTED is by far the lowest price and I only list things there that won't sell anywhere else, literally before they go to the charity shop or clothing bank. I always check my sale prices on eBay research and price accordingly. I don't like on Vinted that if you accept an offer they don't have to buy it. On eBay if you make an offer it's a contract and I get the sale straight away.

Springtime97 · 10/05/2025 07:59

I buy quite a lot of vinted. My pet peeve is those selling things theatres are ‘like new’ apart from this stain / rip etc!

I do tend to buy bargains. When I was pregnant I would literally go in next and take pics of the clothes I like and then go on vinted and buy they for £1!

DontReplyIWillLie · 10/05/2025 07:59

Some sellers have a really distorted idea of how valuable a BNWT item is too. I’ve just seen someone list a £32 Zara top for £22. They probably think it’s a genuine bargain. But it completely fails to take into account that Zara can sell it for £32 because they have it six or seven sizes, and that buyers can return it or swap it for another size if they need to. Your market is much, much smaller as a Vinted seller - you need someone who likes that particular top in a size 12 and who isn’t that fussed about not being able to return it.

I might be tempted at a tenner. £22? Madness.

footpath · 10/05/2025 08:13

Sellers are probably comparing to prices in charity shops though!

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 10/05/2025 08:14

Very good... obviously 🙂

Also it has nothing to do with my point.
It was priced to sell.
