We are going to need an inner-city runabout soon, and these are the obvious choices.

One baby, who will be about nine months old by the time we get it, so particularly interested in the usual child-related stuff like boot space, safety locks, rear visibility etc.

Husband is traumatised by the loss of his youth and can't believe that we getting rid of his ridiculous two-door coupe to get a Japanese tissue box on wheels.

Cheers, drivers of economical reliable city cars!

The Top Gear imprimatur carries a lot of weight with my husband (probably more than my approval, if we're being honest) so we will definitely have to look into the Swift.

As you say, husband is going to feel it keenly going from a 12L beast of a thing to a Noddy car. We will not refer to a Jazz as "The Getaway Car" with anything but the most profound irony.

that said, a fellow Jazzer once told me that it was on the cool wall, but he may just have been getting carried away.

tbh you cant fault either on their reliablilty and their customer service. dh used to work for toyota and its very much a case of what ever the customer wants, they get.
have fun choosing

I had a jazz which I loved. Much nippier than the yaris.

I actually started looking at the Jazz after it was mentioned on Top Gear, wanted something bigger than my Fiesta (which to my disgust couldn't have the rear facing car seat in the back because the seat belt wouldn't go round). They were testing the bigger Fiesta (Fusion is it?) and as an aside said why not get a Jazz for much less money.

I have a Yaris and really like it. I don't find the small boot a problem now am used to it (had an estate before), but dd is past buggies. The back seat can be moved forward very easily to make the boot bigger - obviously that decreases the legroom for any backseat passengers.

Childlocks are there and work fine.

I have the 5 door version, a 1ltr one. Fuel economy is 50mpg average.

I wanted a Toyota as they're meant to be so reliable.
