fiat multipla anyone?

We've been looking at lots of cars lately and I think we've settled on a Fiat Multipla Eleganza, brand new, leather seats, all lovely (as much as a Multipla can be). Anyone else with this and are you happy with it? Any last minute things to consider before we buy it on Tuesday? I'd have liked it in a bright red but it comes in black. We have a few trips lined up this summer so don't want to wait too much. Plus they are taking our old Shuttle off our hands as part-exchange. We have DCs aged 8.5, 3, and 7 months. Thanks.

The only gripes we have with this car is that the heater takes AGES to heat up during the winter, the fan seems to have a mind of its own and the front windows don't wind down completely into the door (a minor point, but it can make retrieving tickets from car park ticket dispensers unneccessarily awkward). Also, the oil warning indicator keeps coming on despite there being no problem with the oil level - the garage has never been able to fix that problem. Oh, and the alarm has a tendency to go off for no reason. Other than that, though, it's fine.

are that....

CristinaTheAstonishing · 19/05/2008 21:06

My goodness, a car even uglier than the uglier version of Multipla I think DH would really draw the line at that one

The Doblo is the ugly square one that looks like an ice-cream van, you can't miss it.
I love it though!

Look at the Parkers guide website, it has reviews of them all.

twinsetandpearls · 19/05/2008 21:07

Oi my multipla is not ugly it is individual!

francagoestohollywood · 19/05/2008 21:07

I like the Doblo.
But then I like weird cars, that don't look like cars at all.

francagoestohollywood · 19/05/2008 21:08

When we arrived in the UK with our Multipla in 1999, kids in our city's streets used to point at us and laugh....

Thanks, MM, i'd read about some of those problems on the Fiat forum which i just joined (sad? no. enthusiastic, i prefer).
Hmm, windows, now that can be a problem. I'll see what DH thinks. My dad had an old Dacia where this was the usual design, but i think DH may find it strange.

lol at cristina joining the fiat forum

CristinaTheAstonishing · 19/05/2008 21:24

DH said "of course they wouldn't wind all the way down, have you seen the size of them?" I asked him if he'd feel a bit exposed with such big windows and he said no, he didn't think he'd be w*ing at the wheel. (I think he's making fun of my English.)

Franca - I even wanted to reply to someone on the Fiat forum but chickened out.

Imagine getting addicted to the fiat forum, you could start neglecting mn

MehgaLegs · 19/05/2008 21:37

I am lurking on the forum - they are having a meet up !

See that others have had simialr gear box probs as ours.

francagoestohollywood · 19/05/2008 21:41

see, it's just like MN!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 19/05/2008 21:44

I saw that meet-up, in N London, but I'm away camping that weekend. I think this will be a passion not shared by DH (much like MN).

MehgaLegs - how is your youngest DS? I think I remember he had some problems walking a few months back? I might have got your MN confused with someone else, apologies if so.

He's good Christina thank you for asking . Yes, he is a bit of a mystery, he has some sort of developmental delay going on. He started walking in Jan but his speech and social development are still delayed. He is doing well though - satrted pre school in Jan and loves it (as do I love my two hour sof freedom!)

In my search of the fiat forum I have found someone with quail (Is it PPH?) so can now combine my search for gear box probs with chicken keeper type stuff.

We have missed the meetup, it was last w/end

CristinaTheAstonishing · 19/05/2008 21:57

Oh, the UBB (see, so conversant with all the acronyms), that was last weekend. But there's some other gathering thing going on on the 31st May in London, I think.

Glad to hear your DS's walking has improved, I hope his speech and social development catch up too. DD1 (aged 3.2) has started nursery a month ago and her development since then has been amazing. Every other sentence begins with "At nursery..." and "At MY nursery..."
