I am looking for inspiration. Will be godparents to friends baby later this summer.

If you have had your baby Christened what were the best presents you recieved and why?

If you have been a godparent - what did you get and why?

If you were to ahve a Christening - what would you love someone to buy for your baby?

TIA

i've bought wooden noah's ark in the past, children's Bibles or Bible stories is my standard.

I've enjoyed receiving lovely wall clock, piggy bank, bunnykins type china, silver bracelet good but see it's a girl!

I think nice cutlery (maybe engraved) is a great idea.

My 2 have lovely wooden chairs with their names on

Wooden height chart?

2 of mine have these wooden trains.

I have commissioned some beautiful cushions for my Goddaughters from LucyKate Crafts

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/05/2008 20:36

I did this for someone the other day...

Port to be kept at Berry Brothers, or similar.
Elsa Peretti spoons from Asprey
Leather bound bible
A first edition or nicely bound copy of something relevant
Silver-backed brushes

One of my grandmothers gave me an ancient set of silver & ivory (sorry) brushes/hand mirror/comb etc. They're very beautiful. And no engraving on it thank heavens.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 18/05/2008 20:41

And silver photo-frames, one can never have enough of those.

I do think it's nice to have something to keep.

When I was christened I was given a silver napkin ring, two silver plates and an antique silver locket. They were kept in 'my drawer' in my mother's desk, and I would take them out and have a look. When I finally got my own permanent place to live, I took them all with me, and now use them regularly.

For a boy, cufflinks, a good fountain pen, something like a silver hipflask, silver salt cellars.

Also, a nice set of classic books, as above.

For my godson I sent him a tree (a cherry I think, his birtday is April and I envisaged it blossoming beautifully around his birthday ) - a sapling that can come with an engraved plaque. You plant it in a pot first until it is big enough to put in the garden

One of my sons was given 'a piece of the moon' by a godfather. We laughed about it at the time but put the deed up on the wall framed. Now ds rather enjoys boasting that he owns some of the moon and tries to work out where it might be when he sees the moon.

I am liking the cufflinks idea. Have been looking online - hard going though - If I go down that route I would ideally want some nice Sheffield silver ones (we are in Sheffield). Does that sound ok as a present?

sounds perfect. Do you have a local, independent jeweller that you can go to, rather than looking online?

Hulababy · 20/05/2008 22:27

Yes, probably. Just need to find the time to go and look!

I'd maybe buy a boy a traditional Hornby Train Set, they give even grown men many hours of fun!

Hulababy · 28/05/2008 20:09

He already has a train set - a wooden one, with lots of the Thomas trains.

Another idea, as the cuff links and other "to keep" type things are not very inspiring online:

What about a wooden balance/running/training bike?

Or a pedal car, classic style?

How about nice leather passport case/cover?

Hulababy · 28/05/2008 21:17

He already has a nce passport cover - we went abroad with them earlier this year and I saw it then
