Complete gym novice, need some recommendations for trainers and gym wear? Not too expensive. Thank you

Clothes wise, it depends what you feel comfortable in, but either shorts or leggings are easiest to move in without getting in the way. Sainsburys running leggings are good, high waisted and comfortable and don’t roll down at the top. A t shirt or vest top, a basic base layer t shirt from Decathlon will keep you cool and won’t chafe. A sports bra, M&S sports bras are good, supportive and comfortable. For trainers, go for stability over trainers designed for sprinting, I have high arches and find Asics trainers good for this.

I rate decathlon trainers. Kalenji 100 or Domyos are handy as they're reasonably flat so you can run in them (wouldn't run a marathon in them) and use cardio machines and do weights. I have kiprun 500 which are good for running if you do say 5k or more at a time but the thick bouncy soles make weights more difficult than they need to be.

Supermarket clothes, bra, top and shorts are fine. Decathlon is good too. Domyos range is my favourite but there's no vanity sizing. If you're a 14-16 you'll be a XL in Decathlon clothes.

I go in black high waisted thick leggings from poundtretcher, a pair of trainers I think I got from Matalan and a short sleeved tshirt.

you don’t need any kind of specialist clothing, just something comfortable that you can move and stretch in without being restricted and shoes that are comfortable and supportive.

Depends what you'll be doing in the gym. Running will need different shoes than deadlifting for example.

Good bra. Pick a colour scheme and stick to it. I agree decathlon is good.

Oh and yeah a bra that straps everything in good and tight. For me that means an M&S super duper extra strength firm support sports bra.

I was new to the gym when I started 17 months ago. I initially bought two sets of what I thought I would want to wear. Then ditched that for what I do want to wear. For me I hate the feel if lycra. I'm wearing loose 100%cotton things.

For trainers, I bought whatever asics were on sale. I think I spent £50. They're still going strong.

I can't stand sports bras, and I'm only a c cup and I'm not bouncing around, so my sloggi padded bralettes are fine.
