Online shopping return saga.

I received an online order form a well known UK retailer. In the package was an item that I did not order and have not been charged for - worth about £30 and no use to me. Wanting to 'do the right thing', I messaged the company to inform them of the error. Someone replied stating that I should either return to a store or print off electronic return label and arrange a courier. Its not convenient to me to return to a store and I don't have a printer so they said they would send a label via post. I haven't received this yet. I was advised that if I arranged a courier, I wouldn't be charged for this but when I went to book it seemed the payment is usually taken from the billing details, deducted from the value of the returned item or the whole lot refunded in full after refund has been approved. Since there is no refund to process, I don't know how it works and obviously don't wish to be charged for it then have to be refunded. I wrote to them stating that the onus should be on them to arrange a courier at their cost and effort. A few days later a courier arrived but because there was no return label they refused to take the item. It was marked as "not ready" or similar.

What should I do now? Message them back and explain that I haven't received the return label and request a new pick-up? I'm not really motivated to put more effort into sorting out this mess. I want to just shove it in a cupboard or give it away but now they know that I have it can I be billed or accused of theft?

If this happens again in future I think I'll just pretend that I didn't see it and save myself the bother!

Their problem tbh. Some couriers will have the label required. Let them work it out. Maybe hang onto the item for a few weeks just in case but otherwise no need to do anything. For £30 I doubt they will do anything more.

Thanks for your reply.

I've just shoved in the hall cupboard for now.
