Anyone had their 'colours' done?

Would really appreciate some advice from anyone who has had their 'colours' done. Thinking about doing this but wondering if it is a worthwhile investment.

Aren’t summer and winter for cool tones and autumn and spring for warm tones? Or does it not really work like that?

Yes that’s it, but there is such a range across warm and cool. I came out as spring, able to wear all colours from pastel to saturated however navy and white which are in the cool palette also worked. My sister came out the same as me except for the navy and white, and her skin is more golden, mine more pink. We went in thinking we’d be totally different!

Having done some research thinking of going with a 'Colour me Beautiful' consultant. They have a certain standard of accreditation and will read the reviews of the 2 local to me.
My confusion is I am concerned I will forget what colour palette they tell me, would like to think you get information to take away, will need to check out.

I had mine do e by CMB decades ago and still wear the colours the lady identified. I. Those days you got a wallet with colour swatches, dont they have a number you call to find out or a website?

I asked chatgpt and it said I'm a soft summer, and provided a swatch and moodboard, and some recommended outfits and makeup suggestions. The recommended colours (sage, rose, mauve among others) sound about right for me and the colours to avoid sound right too (I do not suit bright yellow or black). No idea how it compares to a real life colour analysis but I'm too broke for that anyway. You do have to be comfortable with uploading a photo.

TeaIsNice · 14/04/2025 17:49

i had it done about 15yrs ago - still use my colour cards to this date. Worthwhile in my case

Has anyone done this who has a neutral skin tone? I’m definitely a neutral, so I don’t know how it would work with me to get me into a colour season.

I had a neutral skintone, or so I thought before having my colours done where I had a direct comparison with someone with a cooler summer tone.

It turns out I'm an autumn with a warm skintone. Which is obvious now I know but for decades I'd assumed I suited cool summery colours. It's transformed my wardrobe and I love it.

LeaveALittleNote · 14/04/2025 19:58

@Droiskyn Interesting. I just assumed that it wouldn’t work for me with being neutral. I’d love to get this done.

I’ve never understood it, surely by just looking in the mirror you can tell what colour suits you. I mean there must be more to it and I’d like to understand.
I’ve always suited All shades of blue, dusky pinks, lilacs and grey. I don’t suit White, Reds, Yellows. I can see this for myself, what is it that an expert adds to that? Again not being sarcastic am genuinely asking?

Well, clearly not.

I never thought I could wer emerald green, but it really suits me.

Having scarves of the same colour but in different shades draped over you really does show how much difference it makes to have the correct shade. Lime green or olive green just makes me look ill, but emerald green brings me to life, as does lobelia blue and scarlet red.

I’m terrible, I genuinely have no sense of what suits me colour wise, even when I had it done she draped stuff over me and asked what I liked, I couldn’t tell. But since I had it done I get lots of compliments about my outfits.

I have "soft" colouring and a neutral skin tone. Basically I can’t wear strong colours at all, other than black which is really a neutral. I go for taupe, white, brown, camel etc. anything stronger and I just fade into the clothes.

I had a 1:1 colour analysis with a House of Colour consultant and it was fantastic. I am a Sweet-pea Summer.

On the day I was advised not to wear any make up and had my hair have been coloured, it would have been covered during the analysis. I had a plain smock covering my top half and then large silk scarves were placed over my chest and shoulders. The stylist kept draping them and removing them, explaining that each time she was looking at how the colour/tone of my eyes, lips and skin changed. It was like magic!

She also helped me with make up selection too - she recommended I always use brown mascara and eye liner, never black, and she encouraged me to try some red lipsticks, which I have never felt brave enough to do before.

I honestly look so much healthier wearing my complimentary colours and I feel more confident experimenting either colours I would never have considered.

I have always said I wanted to get this done but there's only one consultant locally and a friend went to her and while she got colours right, she was quite dated regarding makeup, style etc
Would those who've had it done share there colouring as well as their result? I have no idea if I'm cool or warm toned. I'm naturally dark blonde, but have gone lighter with the sub at times, sallow skinned but reddish with rosacea, green eyes. That may mean nothing. Definitely suit navy rather than black and can wear bright yellow and purple.. any ideas?

You can get a good idea of warm/cool by looking at the veins in your wrist. If they look green you are likely warm, blue then you're likely cool. If you can't really tell (like me) you might be neutral.

You get a set of colour swatches for your 'season' and a booklet showing what your best colours are. It is SO worth it - not cheap at the time, but I instantly started saving money by not buying things that didn't really suit me. One of my best colours was black and it gave me the courage to wear it a lot; I'd been put off by so many women wearing black when it didn't really suit them. Also brilliant white rather than soft white.

You could be an Autumn by the sound of it. Warm toned.

Oh, sharing our colours...
I have pale skin that flushes easily and doesn't tan, light brown/ashy hair, blue eyes. I'm a winter and look good in black, many shades of blue, charcoal, white, deep bluish-red. When younger fuchsia was one of my colours but now I look better in ice pink.

Some people are better at knowing their colours than others, or gravitate towards them more naturally.

You say red and yellow don’t suit you. There will be a shade that does. It may be a brighter, pillerbox red, for example, or a more muted, russet red. Similarly, I never wore yellow, but discovered afterwards I can wear mustard yellow, rather than lemon yellow.

They're blue. But I've seen them green too 😆

LuckyCharmz · 14/04/2025 23:33

Yes, house of colour. Worth the money for sure, but actually having my style done was even more enlightening. Never would I need to get advice on style and beauty as to which dress etc or why I don’t look as polished as a lady in a particular outfit, as I know exactly the shapes, fabrics, styles, patterns which suit me best.
they say the aim is to have something in the wardrobe ready for any occasion should it arise, and that’s definitely the case now. Never have to ask a friend What are you wearing if we go out, as I would never wear the same as them anyway.

Useruseruser01 · 14/04/2025 23:45

Another recommendation for style me happy. I tried styled by Susie, who said I was Autumn. I thought I could be as I have red undertones to my dark hair. But I always felt uncomfortable wearing autumn colours.
went to SMH and was told I’m a Winter, suddenly everything clicked!
She shares so much info on her insta page and her mini shops are such good value.

Dreamingofsunnyskies · 15/04/2025 07:23

Yes,,with House of Colour, about 15 years ago.

It was been so worth it. I don't waste money buying things that don't suit me, and it also got me wearing colours I hadn't tried before. I don't need to refer to the little swatch book these days, but still have it.

SuperTrooper14 · 15/04/2025 07:33

My partner just got me a voucher to have my colours done with Style Me Happy and I'm so excited! I'm 53 and post-meno – big weight gain – I have completely lost my way style-wise. I have a wardrobe of clothes I never wear and my "uniform" is now baggy jeans and shapeless jumpers/t-shirts. My plan is to get my colours done as a confidence boost while I try to lose weight/start properly exercising.

Galadali · 15/04/2025 07:53

I went with HOC last year and am an Autumn leaf (true Autumn). I'm very pale-skinned with rosacea and greying auburn hair. Olive green and chocolate brown are my wow colours and truly make my pale mottled skin look like it's had a week in the sun. They also make my hair colour seem much more intense and when I wear them I feel so much less dowdy. Really worth doing.

When it comes to identifying your seasonal palette, ignore your eye and hair colour and look at what the colours do for your skin. My sister and I have different skin tones, she tans easily, I don’t. She’s got green eyes, I’ve got blue, but we’re both Spring. You get all seasons across all skin colours/ethnicities.

When the stylist held up certain colours to me, my sister and friend would say straight off that it suited me because it made my eyes pop - my eyes are very bright blue. So the stylist asked to close my eyes at first, to focus on the skin.
