furry steering wheel cover ?

MargaretMountford · 13/05/2008 10:39

seriously too - a first aid box is good idea and as I'm neurotic I have a little glass hammer to smash the window in the event of driving into water accidentally...

hifi · 13/05/2008 10:40

dh would die if i turned up with it all decked out. could be a good idea.

The dealer will inform the DVLA and you will get the log book in he post in a few weeks.

The car should have tax on it when you pick it up.

AA do a monthly payment scheme if you don't want to pay out for 12 months in one go.

Car mats
Baby wipes (useful for wiping down the dash and sticky children fingers.

katiemc · 13/05/2008 10:53

My boot contains - spare set of clothes for all of us. Nappies, wipes, travel potty, my 'vomit kit' (towels, kitchen roll, spare carriers, bottle of water and wipes). Large bottle of water, box of cereal bars. Torch. Small bag containing change and crucial phone numbers (school, dh work, neighbours etc). And a pen.

Too much? Too paranoid? Maybe but I can say that over a couple of years every single one of those items has been invaluable at one moment or another whilst out and about.

And if I got a new car? I'd pretend that the dreadful 'Wheels on the Bus' CD doesn't work. Only mummy's one's work.

but not if its a diesel!

bruxeur · 13/05/2008 13:22

Little tyre pressure gauge, the forecourt ones are often very inaccurate.

mylovelymonster · 13/05/2008 13:25

Chammois covered sponge to wipe inside of windscreen on damp days when it starts to fog a bit. Amazing how grotty it gets. Euww.
Ice-scraper.
Correct paint-colour touch-up pen for stone chips and (oops) inadvertant teeny scratches. It will happen. Don't be upset. Can get from dealer - hell get them to throw things like that and car mats in if you're buying new. It's the least they can do - & a tank-full of fuel.
Enjoy x

What are you getting? just to be nosey

hifi · 13/05/2008 13:39

I'm getting a black metallic 1.4 polo.
dont know if dd and i are going to fit in it if i get everything.
I'm really embarrassed to tell you all but I've never filled one up, will they think I'm thick at the petrol station?

OP posts:
hifi · 13/05/2008 13:43

also how many of you can change a tyre, fill water squirter etc?

OP posts:
mylovelymonster · 13/05/2008 13:47

Wouldn't be able to change a tyre - not without a serious course of weights at the gym. I think the AA/RAC will do that for you roadside, but best to check your tyres regularly and then you prob won't need to. My DH does mine

Sounds lovely. Read your manual re filling tank - may be a filler cap release button inside........ask dealers when you pick up x

Drive carefully!

hifi · 13/05/2008 13:53

at least i may be able to park in somewhere other than a supermarket car park as dh is a big f***.
