Suggestions for new garden toys & equipment for boys aged 8 & 6 please....

We need to 'upgrade' the garden toys. The kids (ours and others) don't find enough interesting things in it to play with. So I need suggestions.

So far we have:

  • a goal & balls (rarely used - not into footies)
  • swingball (v. popular at the mo)
  • TP climbing frame (being outgrown now)
  • cricket stumps
  • badminton, no net though
  • miscellaneous - frisbees, quoits etc

I don't really want a trampoline.

But I wondered about:

  • older child spacehoppers
  • rope swing or tyre from giant trees at the bottom of the garden (anyone bought a good one from anywhere - the trees are VERY high!)

What else? Please tell me what your kids of this age are enjoying.....

We have a basketball hoop, which seems to be going down well at the moment (dc are 5 & 7). Also have a 10 ft pool (£50 from woolies) which has been used non-stop for the entire weekend. I would have thought a tyre swing would be a goog idea but you may have to make one youself!

Oops - forgot we HAVE a basketball hoop at the front too!

(Maybe my kids are just spoilt brats... )

About the 10ft pool:

  • what exactly do they do in it - not swimming I guess?
  • does it take ages to fill?
  • how long do you leave it up for?

a tent

a water slide this one looks excellent fun

water pistols

tyre swing - think you can buy a kit to fix up an old tyre - will have a google

ChippyMinton · 11/05/2008 21:49

like this but you might need longer ropes for your trees

Yes... DH thinks the best branch is 33 ft up

Any other toy/ equipment suggestions?

Ours 10, 7, and 6yrs like croquet, mini golf and buiding teepees from garden canes and old duvet covers, well they're meant to use the old ones

They also seem to spend a lot of time marching around waving flags and setting challenges for each other, I think "Raven the island" was the inspiration for this!

Have you seen the really tall tower tp now do which attaches to their metal climbing frames for older kids?

Legacy · 12/05/2008 09:28

Oh no - no I haven't! Any links?

I was thinking back to what I did at this age, and I'm pretty sure it was spacehopper gymkhanas - with garden cane 'jumps'

Sorry can't do links but if uyou go on the tp toys website I'm sure you'll find it.
