Trix11 · 07/05/2008 11:16

Where is the best place and brand to buy under floor heating for a kitchen to go on a concrete floor under tiles. I need to purchase some asap. What things to do I need to consider when buying and fitting?

Thanks

we were looking at this for our bathroom but decided against it

it doesn't heat the room so much as take the chill off the tiles

would you be using it as well as radiators?

i think if you do get it, you need to make sure that you can switch it on and off and a timer as it takes a while to heat up

MascaraOHara · 07/05/2008 15:59

Deffo go for it. it's the one thing I regret not getting.

that said you need to make sure that your tiles are compatible. The reason I didn't get it was because I couldn't have it with the tiles I set my heart on.

my kitchen floor is gorgeous but cold lol

Trix11 · 07/05/2008 16:26

Thanks

Are you looking at the wire or the mat variety? My tip would be to ensure that you have a very good tiler! if there is anything wrong with the tiles, not stright, get cracked/chipped etc then its impossible to lift the tiles again to replace because of damaging the wires underneath. I would second the need for a timer.

Trix11 · 10/05/2008 18:43

Is there much difference in the wire and mat versions? Are all brands much of a muchness? Ive had some info come from a company called Handy Heat and I may use them to supply.

We have it in our bathroom. We have Warmup and it's great. It comes in mat form or wire form. We chose the wire form because we only needed it for a small area and to go around curved bath. It takes a while to warm up, but it makes all the difference. We have ours in the main bathroom area and it doesn't quite stretch to the door. I have to tell you that those tile by the door are freezing in the winter, so we all skip over them

Trix11 · 11/05/2008 17:55

Is it expensive to run?

No, not noticeably - the bill was about the same.

Bumping this, as I'm just about to get some myself to go under new tile floor in the kitchen.
Need something more than just taking the chill off the tiles - we are losing the radiator in that end of the room (knocking through to dining room, dining radiator will remain, might even change it to a double one) , so hoping underfloor heating will help the general feel of the room too.
Tile shop we are going with recommend Devi (someone else mentioned this) and Thermonet.
What did you end up doing, Trix?

Trix11 · 17/06/2008 21:32

I ended up buying handy heat from an online company. We have not fitted it yet as waiting for the floor tiles to come into stock so cant say whether Im pleased with it or not. I do hope to be
