just spent most of the morning readjusting the angle of the parasol on dd's pushchair every time i go round a corner. Does anyone own a UV shade and would you recommend it? Feel free to tell me if i'm being pfb!

I bought a "Protect a bub" shade for LO's when we went abroad, it fitted every buggy/carrycot & car seat & pulled it down in the evning so they could sleep it was great, think it is an Australian make and it is spf 50, they do hate the sun in their eyes dont they? x

MrsBadger · 06/05/2008 12:40

protect-a-bub here as well
veeery useful

chunglimum · 06/05/2008 12:40

Yes, I used the useless parasol for precisely one day and now consider it one of the main things to tell an expectant mum not to waste her time with! I have a shade-a-babe and it was invaluable, especially the first summer. She's not that keen now she's 2 but I still use it when she's asleep in the push chair. So I would recommend it, as it really gives you peace of mind.

I bought a UV shade for dd's Bugaboo and it was great last year. I can only howl with laughter when I remember her first outing in the sun with me having a huge tantrum because I couldn't get the parasol to shade her at all times.

duellingfanjos · 06/05/2008 12:47

thanks all. Off to order one now!

Pinkjenny - I have been looking at those (just to check - is it the silvery thing?)
Do they need to be used with the hood up? I feel the fleece hood/canopy thing is very warm and I can't be arsed to shell out for the 'breezy' canopy as well.

Sorry for hijack

Pinkjenny · 06/05/2008 13:01

Yes its the silvery one. From memory I think they need to be attached to the hood in much the same way as the useless rain cover.

PinkPussyCat · 06/05/2008 13:04

Ah right... do have the 'breezy' thing?

Agree about raincover btw!

PinkPussyCat · 06/05/2008 13:05

that should read 'do you have the breezy'

stealthsquiggle · 06/05/2008 13:05

kiddopotamus ray shade. Great investment. Parasols and buggy hoods are useless.

Pinkjenny · 06/05/2008 13:09

As I'm not sure what the breezy thing is, I am assuming I don't have it!

PinkPussyCat · 06/05/2008 13:12

It's this
Sorry for confusion

Am liking the look of the kiddopotamus one...

Pinkjenny · 06/05/2008 13:14

No I don't have it - I attached the shade to my normal hood. All the additions to the BB are so bloomin expensive. I don't even rate the bloomin pram. Dd hates it.

Am wondering what I will do with dd this year as she is 1yo and defo won't be under that shade! Guess it'll be a hat and suncream for me.

PinkPussyCat · 06/05/2008 13:17

Same here, PJ. We got it because dh loved it! But it ain't him trying to fold it/stuff it in the boot every day.
Ds seems to like it though!

accessorizequeen · 06/05/2008 13:20

rayshade is excellent, noticed they have them in boots now for under £20. Outlook also do another type which looks v.good too (not the shade a babe). Only thing is that when it's windy the ray shade keeps springing up so on very windy sunny days it doesn't work so well. Love the fact that it folds up into nothing, unlike shade a babe which I had before & was v.bulky

stealthsquiggle · 06/05/2008 14:09

We found that by attaching the straps to the front of the buggy we could get the rayshade to stay put in reasonable winds - and it tolerated having a fan clipped to the front of it as well (we were in Florida, out in the midday sun, and it was very hot!)
