Vegan protest supermarket

OMG I’ve just seen a clip of vegan protesters
blocking the aisle in Sainsbury’s
I am semi vegan and fully support the need to eat plants and change our current thinking around our food choices.
But this kind of protest is completely counterproductive, if fans the flames of vegan
stereotyping .
instead of this ridiculous act surely, the people staging the protest could think of a more effective way to get the message across!
print out simple recipes, hand them to customers outside the shop ,engage people in conversation etc ,suggest some small changes people can make to save money, be more healthy and help our climate .
this protest will not help .

It doesn’t surprise me to be honest. It seems to be a growing trend for people to protest about subjects they support and if you express a different opinion you just get shouted down. Why can’t people just let others make their own choices and stop trying to dictate.

What is semi vegan?

What is semi vegan?

Same as mostly vegan, mainly plant based and a whole host of other terms.

Someone who cares about the planet and does their best in a non-obsessive way.
Better if 50% of the country were semi vegan than 3% were militantly vegan.

Eggs , from my own chickens!!

Some people have way too much time on their hands.

MifsBr0wn · 19/01/2025 14:06

I wouldn't get in my way, I'm lethal with a shopping trolley.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 19/01/2025 14:06

Protesters are weird now.

I still don’t understand Just Stop Soup and their obsession with wrecking things which have been around for years and have no connection to oil.

AIBot · 19/01/2025 14:11

There are all kinds of clips online. A lot of them are fake. If you’d experienced this in person, it would have been more worthy of discussion.

Megifer · 19/01/2025 14:27

They did this in my local Tesco a few months ago, everyone just stepped over them to get to the meat while they sat there looking shocked that their efforts were absolutely worthless 🤣

(Ex vegan who wasn't weird with it)

That's a snooty reply 🤣

Vegans are just people who have seen footage of what happens to animals on farms and in slaughterhouses and want everyone to stop funding it, because it's absolutely horrific. I'm one of them.

The truth about what goes on behind closed doors in the meat and dairy industries is horrifying. If anyone is in any doubt, I recommend watching the documentary 'I Could Never Go Vegan' on Apple or Amazon Prime. Or even just google "slaughterhouse footage".

The meat and dairy industries like to tell us that the animals have a nice life and are slaughtered humanely (because that kind of marketing sells products), but I think we all know in our hearts that farm animals feel fear and pain, just like our pets do, and that there's no moral justification for killing and eating sentient beings when so much other food is available to us.

A lot of people know how animals are slaughtered and feel content with eating them still. I do not eat meat as I don’t feel happy eating animals. I am a vet and during my time at university I had to spend a fair amount of time in abattoirs. I found it very difficult having been veggie for 15+ years, you would think others would turn vegetarian. Actually, the other veggies in my group started eating meat again when they saw how strict things are in the U.K. They felt happy with the process and reintroduced meat into their diet.

At the end of the day, no matter what media people consume, they may still be happy to eat meat. We can’t make that decision for them and can’t take away the choice. Trying to stop or change their mind only makes them more stubborn. Like many things we all need to make choices that sit right with us personally.
