I am on a major economy drive and have realised that the biggest price on my shopping list is DHs cider £16 (on offer at the mo in tesco £10 or 2 for £16) Anyway he can kiss goodbye to that (although I havent told him yet)
I thought I could also save £££s on nappies, I use pampers but wondered if tescos or boots own brand are any good or not worth the small saving. Any advice please

Tescos superfit are good. But the cheapest by far would be reusable nappies - terry squares are about £2.50 each, wraps about £8. You would need about 15 of the former, and 3 or 4 of the latter to go full time reusable, or you could use them in the day and a disposable at night, or out and about, which is what I'm doing at the moment. It makes a huge difference to the amount of waste you produce too.

Initial outlay, about £60 (less if you buy 2nd hand), recoup your money in about 2-3mths.

CarGirl · 05/05/2008 20:52

agree with anonymama, yes tesco superfit are very good, but buying some decent 2nd hand washable nappies would be even cheaper. I always use a disposable overnight but cloth the rest of the time (except holidays)

Lidl -I didn't discover them until my second DC was around 2 yrs old which was a shame but I found them excellent (had used Pampers before)

ja9 · 05/05/2008 20:53

i've always used tescos. get on really well with them.

Sexonlegs · 05/05/2008 20:53

Bigknickers, I second anonymama re Tesco's Superfit - they are fab!

Not sure about re-usables - never used them.

bigknickersbigknockers · 05/05/2008 20:53

I dont want to get re usable ones because DD is hopefully going to be out of nappies in the summer. I'm not sure if there is a big saving on own brand nappies, I wondered what thier value ones were like, does anyone use these?

I actually switched from pampers to Tesco superfit because I prefer them.

chonky · 05/05/2008 20:54

Lidl's disposables are excellent, and very cheap.

bigknickersbigknockers · 05/05/2008 20:55

Is there a big differenc in price between tesco superfit and pampers babydry

chonky · 05/05/2008 20:56

yes

foxythesnowfox · 05/05/2008 20:58

Another vote for Lidl. 50 for a fiver. I've just switched to them and use them in the day, and Pampers at night. But I think I'll switch completely. They seem very good.

heymammy · 05/05/2008 21:00

Big yes here for Tesco Nappies, have always used them, although I do prefer the Baby Dry ones. They fit great and have never leaked although I do always buy the slightly bigger size.

They are £5.98 for the big carry packs so that's about 58 nappies (more or less depending on the size).

Tesco has always been my first choice, but I now buy Boots own brand which I find almost as good (only because I no longer shop at Tesco and H used to get them on the way home from work, well he's not here to get them now so I have to get them myself)

ten10 · 05/05/2008 21:04

I use Sainsbury's own Dry Nappies, which are really good as my DS is a big wee-er and these are about the only ones he doesn't leak with over night.
also the fit seems to be just right for him, certain other brands just don't fit him so well, i think this is because he is very slender around the hips and bottom.

sweetkitty · 05/05/2008 21:06

Tesco's here through choice, I went back to Pampers and Huggies a few times with coupons and they are rubbish. Tesco's all the way.

bigknickersbigknockers · 05/05/2008 21:10

just been on the tesco web site and they are about £2 cheaper than pampers.
The value ones are about £1.50 for 20. Anyone use these? (or sainsburys economy ones)

littlelamb · 05/05/2008 21:13

Tescos are great. I used pampers for a tiny newborn, then tried Sainsburys which I hated, have not been impressed by Boots, Superdrug or Huggies, so its Tesco all the way here.

MindingMum · 05/05/2008 21:21

I'm a childminder and I buy Kirkland brand from Costco - can't recommend them highly enough. They cost £15 for 112, fit brilliantly and never leak

dustyteddy · 05/05/2008 21:24

another vote for lidl here. Tried Aldi, but not as good imo.

PotPourri · 05/05/2008 21:26

Lidl or aldi work fine when I use them (usually use cloth). If have any cloth nappies, much much cheaper. You can get a terry nappy kit for very cheap and there is no further cost (other than a couple of washes a week!). If you go on freecycle and ask if anyone has any cloth nappies, you might even get them for free!

wrinklytum · 05/05/2008 21:30

Lidl ones good, and Tescos superdry.Don't use the really cheapo tescos ones, they have horrid plastic outer layer and are crap.

peachygirl · 05/05/2008 21:38

I didn't get on with the tesco superdry ones. They seemed tight on my DD (who is slim)
I much prefer boots own brand. Plus you get double points on them and they pften have good offers on buying two packs for a certain price.

bigknickersbigknockers · 05/05/2008 21:39

Tescos it is then, but not the value ones. Major cost cutting exercise going on in our house at the moment and need to make savings where I can. thanks everyone
