Bra that doesn't slip off your shoulders!

Missymessynessy · 16/01/2025 07:49

Since kids I'm used to wearing crop top style bras for my smallish boobs, but I'm now wanting to go back to normal non wired bras.
I've found some perfect, soft comfy ones in boux avenue but the straps constantly slip off my shoulders. They are definitely the right size. (I think I just have sloping shoulders!)

Where can I find a bra where the straps are set a bit closer together (without being crossover or racer type style) to help keep them up?

Any shops or styles that anyone can recommend? Or am I doomed to shapeless crop tops forever?

I had 'sloping shoulders' when I wore 34c, so my bra straps were constantly falling down. Now that I wear 30e (same cup size, narrower band) I am miraculously cured. Are you sure you are wearing the correct size?!?

Joyfulspringflowers · 16/01/2025 08:03

Sorry I don't have a solution but watching your thread with interest because I have the same problem: I've always worn non wired bras and the right shoulder strap is forever slipping down. I assume my right shoulder slopes but the left doesn't!
It's very annoying.

HoarFrostedWorld · 16/01/2025 08:11

Mine are very sloped and this always happens.

I have found some M&S bras - mine is called Wildblooms - that have silicone grippy stuff lining the straps, so that they don't slip. That has been great.
Mine is wired and full cup, but they probably do something similar on some other models - this is in their own brand range.

Iwilladmit · 16/01/2025 08:13

How is this happening? Can you not just tighten the shoulder straps? Surely if it fit the tension/ friction is enough to stop it. Even if I was suspended sideways my straps wouldn’t fall off.

Iwilladmit · 16/01/2025 08:14

Also - if they are loose enough to slip off they doing absolutely nothing so you may as well cut them off!

Small , slightly sloping shoulders and an active person means they can leave dig marks in your shoulder and still slide off

I have up with conventional bras - that was one reason

Missymessynessy · 16/01/2025 08:25

I've tried going down a band size, but a 32 is generally too tight. I bought one and it's better, but I never wear it because it's uncomfortable! So defeats the object. I could probably tighten the straps a bit but much tighter than they are would dig in, or the bra would slip upwards. Like I say, my boobs are pretty small and flat / saggy from breastfeeding haha.

On the other hand I have definitely had some bras that do slip and some that don't in the past so it's not just a size or tightness thing, but I appreciate the tips!

Also where have you found a bra in a 30e? I currently wear a 34c, interested in which specific bra this is so I can copy you haha x

That's great but you're on the wrong thread if you've never had this problem 😂 what are your shoulders / posture/ build like and what bras do you wear? I am short, quite rounded shoulders, and probably a bit hunched if I'm honest. I've always had a flat chest so my bra is more for shape and nipple cover than anything, so the straps don't really ever have anything much to "pull them down" iyswim maybe it's my body shape or maybe not? X

I'd also say that the band size could go down, and steer away from balcony. I've recently been measured in a proper independant bra shop that people drive from miles around to go to I've since realised, by a no nonsense Bra Queen in her sixties.

She measured me at a much smaller band size and a much larger cup size than I have ever been measured at before and when she disappeared to get some bras to try on I was thinking, it never is.

Well. She was right. My bra woes are over, and she guessed it by looking at me. They did feel a bit odd and I was conscious of the snugness to begin with but a few weeks in and I'm a convert. My boobs look better than they ever have, they're comfy, they go on and stay put all day, and if I try on one in my old size now I feel all wrong so they're all going to the charity shop.

Edited to add, 32F now, was being measured as a 38D before, I'd also given up and moved to crop tops which was did nothing for my morale!

meltingmyhead · 16/01/2025 08:34

They sell like straps that go between the back straps to stop them slipping. Also you could try the grip things that go on your shoulders. If you search something like stop bra straps slipping on Amazon they both come up. I've used the straps and they worked for me.

I'm guessing this is Sadie the Bra Lady? Definitely worth a visit if you're anywhere near the North East

I have the same issue. I have already been through the process of being measured properly and going down a couple of band sizes. It still happens. I have sloping shoulders, poor posture, and dry skin which means there's no moisture at all which I think adds to the issue as things just slip on my skin. I'm wearing a 30 back in Freya. You can't get much a smaller band than that in a decent brand.

I'd love a solution that's still a supportive bra. I basically need a 29GG to be the perfect size.

I went to a local bra specialist here (not Sadie!) who had rave reviews online and she only had one bra in a 30G and nothing with a smaller band despite her speciality being difficult fits.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2025 09:13

Ive got sloping shoulders and some bras slip badly.
I recently got measured in John Lewis as a 30FF...hideously uncomfortable.
Went to m&s, measured as 32F and bought a couple of these...very comfortable and I don't think I've had any strap slippage with them. (They can be switched to a crossover back but I hate the feel of that on my shoulder blades so don't do that.)

i reckon they’re pretty good if you want the comfort of a crop top but the shape of a bra. I also like they’re not padded, just a nice thickness.

I just looked up the Wildblooms bras and it's not just the one I have - there are options for non-wired as well, and they all seem to have the coating on the underside of the elastic (you can see in the online photos that it seems a slightly different texture). I wouldn't be surprised if there are other ranges that have this as well, although I know not all the M&S ones do as I've had problems with other ones.

For me it's definitely shoulder shape - they are just very angled. Tight bands don't really help as they just emphasise any fat rolls around the back, which I sadly have. The straps might not do that much, but i still want them to stay up as it's irritating when they keep falling down your sleeve! So the silicon backed straps have been great.

SabbatWheel · 16/01/2025 09:38

For a really cheap option that might work, try Asda’s non wired bras with lace. They have straps set a bit further in and are really comfortable. Cheap as chips too, so if they don’t work for you, there wasn’t much spent.
I’ve worn them for years.

Hoogieflip · 16/01/2025 09:43

I use silicone bra strap cushions from Amazon with some, but not perfect, success.

I went to Bravissimo and got measured, I always go for Panache Clara.

I first discovered I was in completely the wrong size in John Lewis. The woman looked at me and told me that at my size I couldn't possibly be a 34 band (I'm a size 8 usually) and that you should be able to feel your bra. It took a bit of getting used to, and I don't think about it any more, but when I do think about it, I can feel it. But I can feel it supporting me, it's not uncomfortable. And I can run for a bus without holding my chest now. I couldn't do that before.

If I measure myself, I'm about 28/29 inches, but I think that would be too tight (if that size even exists!), there is no need to add on four inches. The reason my bra straps slipped off my shoulders before was that the bra was so wide they weren't actually on my shoulders in the first place!

The further proof that this is the right size is that I'm still in the same cup size, because 34c and 30e are sister sizes. I had always turned my nose up at Bravissimo before, because they didn't go as 'low' as c cup. Once it was revealed I was more than a c cup I've never looked back!
