Have you got those deep drawers for pots and pans/plates and bowls from IKEA and are they really good, or not?

Have always kept pans hanging up and plates in cupboard or rack. Am thinking of getting some ofthese for new kitchen.
Are you happy with them?

I am stalking you . Actually, yes, I have two IKEA kitchens - they aren't perfect but the pan drawers are standing the test of time and the wooden encimeras (sorry English going) - worktops - that's it, are good. I doubt you'll get better value for money, but these aren't kitchens for life.

I have (not from IKEA) - they are fine for saucepans etc, but not good for dishes, as unless you are very gentle opening and closing the drawers they get bashed about and chipped (I have Pyrex casseroles/lids in one of mine and the bottom of the drawer is covered in tiny shards of glass )

We had IKEA pan drawers in our last house - they were fab. No problems.

My mum has them in her Ikea kitchen and she really likes them. My auntie has the recycling bin drawer too, and that seems to work well.

hoxtonchick · 04/05/2008 23:17

we have them, & i like them. but we don't use them for saucepans . one has all the childrens' stuff in it, & the other has, um, random stuff. and teatowels. oh yeah, tupperware.

this is undoubtedly all for more information than you wanted!

I had the deep drawer in my old house and really liked it. But I now have my pans hanging on a rack above the kitchen window and I like that more.

Thanks all!

1066 - had to do a search to see which of my other threads you were on! Silly to get an IKEA kitchen really as closest one is 1.5 hours away in Malaga but don't have a car so it's easier working it all out from the catalogue and website then going in a friend's car than going to the local places on the edge of town by taxi.
Wanted wooden worksurface but have been put off as the house may be rented out in a year or two from now and they need quite a lot of TLC don't they? To my great regret will probably go for imitation wood one instead

Wendyweber - what about those things they have for putting the plates in so you can lift the whole lot out in one go? Or the foamy matting for the bottom of the drawers? Would that help?

cat64 - thanks. Am thinking of getting 2x 40cm wide units and a 80cm wide one between them, under hob. Want to put cutlery and cooking utensils in top drawers, plates and bowls in middle and pots and pans in middle and bottom of wide unit. Also tea-towels etc if any room left over. Haven't had a proper kitchen since 1990, been cooking on a 3-burner glorified camping stove for last 10 years- Am very excited!

No - don't do loving care for worksurfaces and they still look great. Wait until you actually see them - they are worth it.
