I am pregnant with dc3 due in October. My ds2 will be around 2 (baby due on 13th, ds2's birthday 15th). Anyway I am thinking I will need a double buggy for maybe 6 months - 1 year. Have been looking at first wheels double or mothercare urban detour. Any pros/cons of each. thanks

Don't get an iCandy pear - the worst double in the world ruined the first three months with dd2 and I made a huge loss when I got rid of it on ebay (along with the 600 other people getting rid of theirs that had also only been used for three hours before realising it was a nightmare).

I got a P&T and it was a saviour. I only got it when my youngest was already 6 months. I wish I had got it earlier.

mum2jakeyroo · 03/05/2008 22:52

thankyou. I thought thay were supposed to be good. I dismissed it as it is out of my price range.

The old-style p&t's (on ebay) might not be out of your range and wouldn't matter 2nd hand if only using for 6 months? Have you read Mumsnet reviews?

mum2jakeyroo · 03/05/2008 22:56

Malfoy. I wasn't sure about baby being near floor. What did you use till baby was 6 months old if you don't mind me asking.
I can't decide if I am just being too fussy. It is my last child (so I'm told lol) and I am becoming pram obsessed.

mum2jakeyroo · 03/05/2008 23:03

oooh that is nice. not sure I can convince dh. Will start working on it now. I have nearly 6 months to convince him. lol

this is my other fave.

Tootyfrootie · 03/05/2008 23:12

I had DS (2.5) in mama's and papa's pramette and new born dd in baby bjorn carrier until she was 4/5 mths (hard work) - then MIL bought us a very cheap double buggy where ds sits in the front and dd in the slightly higher rear seat both facing forward and its a god send (rear seat can lay flat for when ds wants to crash out). She bought it on ebay - buy it now - for £31. It's not going to last forever but I shall only need it for 6 months. Only thing is this particular double buggy would never have been suitable from birth as v.little support.

nappy that is nice and good price until you put postage on. Anybody in america that can bring me one back. lol. I was looking at second hand tbh as I think I will only use it for 6 months ish. Anyway the detour is too wide for my front door.

thanks tooty I did think about a carrier but am not keen. With baby being due in october I like them snuggled up iyswim. I am being a fusspot. But this will be last pram purchase I will be allowed. I think.

my dc3 will arrive in June when dd will be 21 months. i've gone for an out and about nipper, absolute bargain on ebay. loving it!

I will miss the carrycot a lot as used it all the time with my first 2, but I couldn't justify the expense. thankfully my dd is a great walker and lots of the daily journeys we have to do are v short distances so will use bit pram some of the time and let dd walk.

i've heard the urban detour is very bulky, heavy and wide.

elfsmummy · 04/05/2008 10:39

I've got a two year old (just) and a 2 week old and we've just got this

From what I could gather it the narrowest side by side available and fits through standard doors.

Really pleased with its handling etc. Very light and easy to steer. Collapses fairly easily although is pretty big - you'll need a decent boot!

The real reason we went for it is because its resale value is pretty good as I'm planning to get rid on ebay in a few months when DD1 is better at walking

elfsmummy · 04/05/2008 10:40

Sorry - one handed typing and BFing - cross posted with quite a few others there!

nappyaddict · 04/05/2008 13:18

mumtojakeyroo - i think you can get them in the uk. go to pram addicts tea room and ask oliviaelanasmum - she's thinking of getting one.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/05/2008 13:27

I have just got the first wheels city twin. However not used yet as baby not due till August so sorry cant be of much practical help.
Does seem quite light. seat units and carry cot very light. Easy to remove from frame.
Downside from what I can see
seat units not very wide. DD will be 18 month when baby arrives and she quite big now.

Carrycot very narrow, although just sold coach built pram so could just be spoilt by how much room they have.

Both seat units have to come off before you fold.

YouNeverKnow · 04/05/2008 13:41

I have a p&t vibe and its fantastic. Dd1 is 2.5 yrs and dd2 is 8 months. Best buggy i've had and i've had LOADS!

Disenchanted · 04/05/2008 13:42

Ive just got a 2nd hand Jane Powertwin from ebay for my new arrival and DS2 who will be 2.5 when the new one comes.

mum2jakeyroo · 04/05/2008 13:51

its a good job i have till october to decide and buy. I am now more confused than ever. lol. I think I am going to have to do more research. nappy addict thanks for the tip. am heading over to that thread now.
