swinging crib????

ds1 is 4 and ds2 will be 1 when ds3 arrives. when the baby sleeps i don't really want to be running up and down the stairs. was thinking of getting a swinging crib for down stairs as there are a bit more sturdy than a moses basket especially with ds2 just walking(hopefully by then)!
is this a good idea or a complete waste of money?
what did you all do?

Agree with tmmg. We very nearly bought one but decided against it on cost grounds and in the end were glad we didn't because our son slept well in the daytime in his carrycot (on pram wheels). Carrycots/moses baskets are cosier than cribs too.

yes like that! oh no thats not good! i'm just a bit concerned that my other ds might get carried away whilt playing a knock it over

i had one like tmmg link, used it for about 5 weeks then dd was banging her arms and legs on the sides because she was getting too big for it, waste of money imo.

We had similar one no probs it had lock so doesn't have to swing at all. Apparently most babies like forward and back motion more than side to side anyway.

We did not get it for swing but because we thought it likely DS would be long (he was and is) as DH is v v tall so thought he could stay in it longer than a Moses basket.

It has teddies in now and is shortly going to DS's new cousin on the way!

So, pleased with it all round actually.

WrongSideOfTwenty · 30/04/2008 21:22

I had a moses basket, a swinging crib (toys r us one) and a mamas and papas 3 in 1 pram.

Both my daughters disliked the crib but loved sleeping in the moses basket and the pram. (it had a proper mattress in it and was actually comfier than the moses basket!)

If I had my time again I wouldn't bother with the crib. (Though they are really pretty with the drapes)

Your other ds wouldn't be able to knock over the pram so if you are having one you could use it for daytime naps and a moses basket or cot for night time.

We have that crib in tmmj's post - DS lasted about 8-10 weeks in it before he got too big and went into his cot. He wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes in a moses basket. It was great, even though not used for long.

Don't want to buy it do you?!

martini82 · 01/05/2008 07:25

might do, i'd have to speak to dp and he's paying ! how much? and what would the postage cost be?

We had one, DS loved it. It was always locked.

DD would have hated it

BosworthBear · 01/05/2008 07:46

we had one for DS, lasted 3 months and it was his main bed at night as well. he was quite happy in it.

PuppyDogTails · 01/05/2008 22:03

I can't post because I can't dismantle it, so it would be collection only from Cheshire, which I expect is pretty impractical! I was only half serious with the suggestion!

Seona1973 · 01/05/2008 22:11

I used a cheap one from babiesrus - about £50 which included the mattress. DS slept fine in it and it did him a few months before he was moved to his cot. We also kept it locked and never used the swinging feature. It pretty much looked like this one. We used it for upstairs and put ds in the carry cot bit of the pram when he slept during the day.

MrsWeasley · 01/05/2008 22:19

We had one like the picture for all 4 DC's and all slept well in it.

the only think I did find was that DD1 was a wriggler and would knock the pin out that stopped it from rocking. She would then turn over, it would tip and she would end up against the bars.

Hope that makes sense we solved it by placing the end with the pin next to a wall!

Also other DC's might be tempted to swing baby a bit too much
