White or Pink noise CDs - Anyone bought one for a colicky baby?

Our DD (4 weeks tomorrow) is quite colicky in the evenings which can be both distressing and exhausting. I tried her on a swing seat this evening and switched the vaccum on and she fell asleep quite quickly for 20 minutes (until older brother woke her!).

I was thinking of buying one of those Pink or White noise CDs from Ebay or elsewhere on the net but was just wondering if anybody had done similar recently and could recommend one to me (or even sell it to me if no longer required!).
Thanks

we did for dd. it seemed to calm her. Personally I would just untune a radio and try that.
Or if you want to try and help her colic take her to a cranial osteopath instead. they should be able to sort her out better

we never bought one but used a radio out of tune -- it made ds1 go absolutely limp with relaxation, really soothed him. Ds2 took no notice but never really got colicky.

have you read Harvey Karp?

No, I haven't read Harvey Karp. Can you give a synopsis of what he suggests/teaches?

Re: cranial osteopaths, we tried one with our first child and had a bad experience. I think that will be a last resort with our second child.

It's been a while since I read it, but he has this whole theory about how to soothe a baby, something like the 6 s's (swing, shush, sucking, swaddle, and I can't remember the others). This is meant to immitate the sensory experience of being in the womb so as to soothe baby (the shush-noise is similar to the sounds of blood and other fluids in the body, swinging similar to travelling round in the uterus, etc...).

So, putting her in the swing and letting her listen to white noise follows his technique; he would also recommend a dummy/non-nutritive sucking and wrapping baby tightly to re-create the sensation of being in the womb.

DD3 has had a white noise cd since she was about a month old. Its a recording of a hoover I think and she falls asleep every time I put it on. She is now 11 months old and still when I put it on she falls asleep.
