I had one for DS amd will use it for new baby in May. It worked perfectly fine - no false alarms anyway

the false alarms were what i was worrying about. so that's good news.
i guess in the end, if your room isn't right next door to the child's room, you end up having to buy a normal sound-activated monitor anyway?

i used it with ds from birth until about 10/11mths and never had any issues at all. I felt very reassured by the monitor and would recommend it

I used one for DD1 and Dd2 when they were tiny, and it was great, you don't need a seperate monitor as it has a sound piece as well

We used one for DS and I really liked the reassurance. Having thought I would be quite a relaxed parent it turned out that I couldn't cope with the sound only monitor as I wanted to go and check on him all the time. We stopped using it when he was around 7 months as he would move off the mat and set the alarm off but by then I was more relaxed!

oh, decisions... i just did an archive search and a few people do seem to have had false alarms and given up on it. i'm also a very light sleeper (which is why i want to get nipper into another room ASAP) and it sounds as if it's difficult to get the volume right down?

how old is your lo bakedpotato? If they have started to move around much in their cot then it probably isn't worth it as I think that is what causes the false alarms - well it was with us anyway. What is your concern with the volume?

Rudydudy, i'm due with no2 in about 3 wks. the volume on our (sound-activated) tomy always seemed too intrusive: you couldn't turn it right down very very low.
from the archive, i got the impression that the angelcare is the same?

you can turn the volume right down on angelcare and still have the lights to indicate of lo is crying...Also there is a beep to indicate breathing but it can also be turned off..personally thought monitor waa fab

I agree with mishsi.
I NEVER had the sound on, just the lights flashing. The alarm went off (once when DS moved once, he was a very still sleeper) and the alarm can still be heard very loudly, as it sounds regardless of whether you have the soung switched on, IYSWIM.
At the back should be a switch which says, sound only, sound and light, lights only, or something similar.

it is crap. we had it for first baby (ds) and apart from the fact that the breathing bit kept bleeping when in fact everything was just fine (so I was on the verge of a heart attack for weeks, till I could bring myself to just not use the breathing monitor, which ironically was the main reason I'd chosen angelcare in the first place), the lowest setting on the volume is still very loud. It's fine if the baby is just asleep, breathing (which you can hear over the monitor), but if they start crying and really let rip, the lowest volume level is so loud, you might as wlel be in the roon with them.
After 18 months of this I finally bought a Tomy Digital, which wa shalf the price and twice as good.
And when DD arrived, we got another, even cheaper Tomy for her. And guess what? It's even better! IME, the more "features" these things have, the more there is to go wrong.

I moved the censor pad lower down the bed after a few heart attacks and have had none since. I suppose the new one (with 2 pads) is probably a bit more reliable but as I am NEVER having another child It won't matter!!

Sorry to butt in but does the mattress thickness matter? Just asking because I've heard different things - some say 12cm max for srung mattress - but I can't seem to get anything useful from manufacturers. The literature just say it works with standard mattress - whatever that is!
