Totally furious with company and myself - anything I can do?

So firstly I know I’m a muppet for doing this but I got suckered by the ads on Facebook into buying what I thought was a coat.
it arrived (from China) and is definitely not a coat, more of a crap jumper.
Company says I have to return to China at my expense. I think the product is misdescribed - sold as waterproof when it’s clearly not.
where do I stand? Who can I complain to to get my money back? Or do I just write it off as my own stupid fault for not reading the exchange and refund policy first?

Unfortunately, from bitter experience, if the seller and selling platform are not based in the UK or EU it's basically impossible to get your money back if they won't offer it. With goods from China, you're basically not going to get anywhere as they don't really have any enforceable consumer protection laws. You could report the ads to Facebook if you see them again, but Facebook are unlikely to do anything.

MilesOfCarpetTiles · 06/11/2024 12:46

Oh that's awful, it looks like a nice coat as well.

There's no address obvious so no reason you'd think it was coming from the UK (apart from the company name) so I think you either have to return it under their conditions or chalk it up to lesson learned.

These places shouldn't be allowed to sucker people in. Equally we have become so reliant on "free returns" we don't consider that it could be costly.

Always dig around if not familiar with the shop!

MilesOfCarpetTiles · 06/11/2024 12:47

Have you got a pic of what you received? It might stop others falling for it...

Angelou79 · 06/11/2024 13:06

Did you pay by credit card? You can do chargeback

mumda · 06/11/2024 13:11

Leave them reviews. It won't help with the money issue but stay legal, write a lot of honest words and add photos. They may ask you to take it down but they might also not care. Or they might offer you a refund to take it down.

ComingBackHome · 06/11/2024 13:14

Did you use a credit card to pay?
Could you get your money back through them?

HermoinePotter · 06/11/2024 13:17

I had this with a dress I ordered from Fenom London. I ended up deciding to cut my losses and left them a really bad review.

You could have done an Avada Kedavra on them too Hermione.

You'll have to chalk it up to experience. Card company unlikely to put a charge back through as the company have offered you a return under their terms and you haven't accepted.

OliviaRodrighost · 06/11/2024 13:50

I urge everyone to check Trust Pilot or just Google whether it’s a scam before ordering anything from a website. I had similar with a mobile phone trading site, which was via Apple but were absolute scammers but I didn’t Google reviews until it was too late 🙃

PrincessAnne4Eva · 06/11/2024 13:58

I'd add for anyone else reading this, it's very common now for dodgy dropship/import companies to put a UK flag on their website/Amazon listings, call themselves something like "UKcompanyname" or "London Company Name" and make dubious claims like "designed in the UK 100%" (which is fundamentally meaningless).

The feedback can lie, watch out for dodgy-written five star reviews that use the same unusual words "this coat is very noble" "very noble company" "good for noble lady" etc that often mirrors odd wording in the written descriptions. Scrutinise the 1 star reviews and give them a bit more weight than the 5 star ones.

Also, if you do return it, it won't arrive within their returns window unless you pay through the nose as it takes about 30 days to send standard post to China.

She's "Hermoine" so perhaps a knockoff version?
(Apologies Hermoine Grin )

NinaBernina · 06/11/2024 20:12

Thanks all, I feel such a fool! I’ve checked Trustpilot previously and not bought from Seafancy for one but just totally dropped the ball here.
sounds like I’ll be writing this one off - although I’m tempted to give the money to Royal Mail rather than this bunch of scammers

How did you pay? If Credit fard/ debit card raise a dispute. As it's less than £100 credit card company might try and fob you off (I had this) but after kicking up a stink they credited my account.

The dress I bought certainly was 😂😂

Tashak90 · 02/01/2025 17:40

I'm having this issue too, I paid on a credit card so they have reversed the charges, and now Fenom London are threatening me with court action, I only just saw it. I've decided to do a story about it, is there anyone from the northwest of England here who would want to speak up about their experience for the news?

BashfulClam · 02/01/2025 17:47

Yeah I always trust pilot now as I get sucked in easily.

NinaBernina · 03/01/2025 21:51

I’m Midlands I’m afraid or I’d definitely be up for it!
