dizzydixies · 22/04/2008 22:48

are they worth the money?

dd2 will be 2.2 when dc3 born and I need a decent double

don't mind spending money if can resell it on ebay but it seems a lot of cash

was originally looking at a double that can be used as single when dd2 up a bit but not overwhelmed by apple pear and cannot get to see a P&T vibe to see if it suits

anyone with any opinions, all gratefully received

tia

i have just got one in the last few weeks & love it! ds1 23 months & ds2 5 months, they both look nice & comfortable & ds1 loves sitting in it. love the fact that i can get through doors!

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/04/2008 08:11

Don't have the double, but the single is wonderful, and I'd be surprised if the double wasn't up to the same standard.

dizzydixies · 23/04/2008 15:37

the only pics I've seen when the double has a cot in it means the buggy seat has no hood, surely that can't be right, a minor point I know but we do live in north of scotland!!!

just don't bring it into the house to try it, garden is close enough lol

do you know what I mean though? the pics show the carry cot sitting next to the seat with no hood on it and thats just not an option up here, we live on the coast and the wind can get quite cutting

when you see both buggy seats on it, it looks like on big hood right across both?!?

arrrgghh, I need a degree in buggies

You have to take the hood off a single to fit a carry cot so not sure. Is the seat suitable from birth? If so could you put a nest in instead - altho a carrycot would be better. I have a single too and it's fab!

amazonianwoman · 24/04/2008 14:22

I have a newish single (bought Sep 2006 - adjustable handle version) and I kept the hood on when I used the carrycot. Basically because I couldn't work out how to remove the hood, but it meant I could pull it over the cot to keep the sun out at any angle

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 14:34

aarrgghhh this is a nightmare

went to shop to see them all yesterday and the lady in the shop told me not to both as the double wouldn't be big enough for my tall nearly 2yr old for any length of time

she told me to get the jane twin so phoned the woman to speak to stockists about that and she told me not to bother with that either and I should look at the Out and About Nipper as its the best for growth and although it doesn't have the facility for a carrycot it has a practically lie flat seat for babies

sigh, am about to give up

The twin 2 is like a tank to push! Powertwin a bit better but I agree don't think they'd last. I am sure that a MB has a taller seat than the nipper but could be wrong. Is there nowhere you could try them? Would a toddler seat be an option. The ABC buggy is meant to be good or baby jogger have just brought out a new model that will take one. I found choosing a single difficult but a double sounds much harder!

amazonianwoman · 25/04/2008 23:13

My almost 4yr old DD (tall, average weight) still fits in DS's single Mt Buggy no problem - the seats on the double are the same height, I'm sure. DS is only 13mths but is huge (same weight as a 2yr old, wears 18-24mth clothes) and he has bags of room.

Friend had a Powertwin and her DD was too big for the front seat by 2.5yrs.

A couple of women I know have had the double Nipper but complained that the seats didn't sit upright enough, which their kids didn't like when they were older.

I'd definitely go for a Mt Buggy double (Mt Buggies are the BEST buggies out there IMHO) or a Phil & Teds if I were you.

fairy15 · 26/04/2008 07:12

ds1 is 2 next month & he fits in the mb no trouble & he is a big boy! i find it much better to push then a p&t its lovely & light & easy.

dizzydixies · 26/04/2008 16:43

she's too tall for the seat when it is up above the lie flat baby option - we tried her in it and it was as if her head was poking out the wee window bit in the top

measured her yesterday and she is 90cm tall so am still not sure

am going to have to go and stick her in a mountain buggy somewhere to have a look but finance wise it will probably have to be the jane powertwin as i can pick one up second hand from ebay and use car seat etc I already have

DD is 106cm if it helps - has enough room in Mt Buggy. I very much doubt she'd fit under the hood of the Powertwin

Mt Buggy is much easier to push than the Powertwin - my friend managed to tip her P'twin over a couple of times.

No, I'm not on commission

dizzydixies · 26/04/2008 21:34

amazonianwoman, thank you
I went to the local mothercare today in hope they would have a mountain buggy or powertwin and they had neither

will have to go further afield I think to check, the powertwin was looking hopeful but no more lol

No experience of MB, but have Power Twin and would say it is not good for taller kids.

Friend has the P & T side by side which is one of the narrowest on the marekt but the seats seem huge. Both seats fully recline, tho' friends DD big from birth so don't think she managed more than about 6 weeks in the cocoon.
