ILs would like to buy one for ds1's 3rd bday

only ones i've seen in elc and the like are for younger toddles - i want one that he'll be able to use for a year at least (then his brother can use it)

i'd get him a balance bike or a scooter tutt, dd has both & whizzes around on them. she also has ds's old trike which is mostly ignored. we have this scooter & this bike. the envy of all almost 3 year olds we meet (though lots of them have them too!).

this boy has so much stuff already

he has a like-a-bike already - loves it

my parents are getting him a scooter

you think he's too old for a trike?

i really wouldn't bother with a trike, especially if other grandparents are buying a scooter, it will be so much more popular. trikes more for 2 year olds imo.

IME i wouldn't bother with a bike. I would just get a normal (maybe 12inch wheel) bike with stabilizers or a balance bike.

thanks both

ok, as he has a bike and will shortly have a scooter they decided to go fo one of those US-style carts

think will be generically useful with the boys in the future

If he already has a bike I wouldn't bother with a trike.

If he already has a lot of stuff why don;t you ask the grandparents to open a bank account for him - boring I know byt they can always buy him a little something to open.

Or ask them to pay for swimming lessons or something. We had similar trouble with DD1, my mum loves to spend money on her but there really wasn;t anything she needed so we suggested ballet lessons, mum then got her the uniform as a present to open and pays for the lessons - DD1 loves it and mum loves it as she gets to spend money on DD1 regularly!

oh, a radio flyer one? they're cool. he could drag ds2 around .

Tutter · 19/04/2008 14:42

yes, that's it exactly

have seen them used for all sots of stuff - dragging younger siblings around, pulling several kids at a time, plonking picnic stuff in... etc etc
