Chicco Polly Highchair - any good? Before I open it and lose the packaging!!

It was on offer, I went for it because I am fed up with the highchair we have - actually we've got two, one is an M&P cheapy from Argos, which doesn't adjust at all and is hard to get Ds in and out of - not to mention the straps being really fiddly, so I don't want to use them.

The other is a very old wooden one which looks great but again sliding him into it is really hard, and it catches his little thighs on the edge of the tray.

I like the wheels on the Polly, and also I suspect you can move the tray out for easy insertion of baby - am I right?

Thanks for any tips or opinions. I have read that it is enormous in terms of space but I need something I can get infant in and out of so if it helps with that I don't care!!

If it is anything like the Chicco Happy Snack then I'd say stay well away! Ours is the bane of my life (well maybe not quite) - it was bought as a present by friends so we feel obliged to keep it. It is bulky, the food gets stuck everywhere which was lovely when DD was in her sicky phase and putting it together for the first time, I was convinced I'd broken it as it required such a great push of brute force to click the back rest into position. DD was (and still is) quite small for her age and never really looked comfortable in it - always sort of slumped.

You'd think I'd have gone and got something else by now wouldn't you? Only redeeming feature is that the tray is removable and easy to wash.

I've got a Chicco Double Polly - really happy with it. Nice and padded and easy to clean. I like the fact that there is a top plastic tray you can lift off and clean and leave the main tray underneath. i don't use the straps for my dd , just wedge her in with the pommel of the tray. The whole thing also folds up quite flat and stores against the wall.

Thanks! One for, one against then...hmmmmmmm.

I would say don't unwrap it and buy a Tripp Trapp - they are huge, very very difficult to clean. Wheels are good but DD hated being sat in a high chair. Plastic tray enormous - babies can reach most of it and a bugger to clean unless you have a sink the size of a small boat. She slumped in the Polly even though she could sit up at 5 months. Yes it stores flat against the wall so your toddler or a friends child can pull it on top of themselves...Biggest waste of money, we bought a Tripp Trapp and my daughter adores it. You can tell I hated the polly I bought it because of lots of fab reviews

I like my chicco polly. It's really easy to get my son in and out and he's really comfy in it. I like that you can use it as a chair up at the table. I know two people who had Tripp Trapps and went and got this instead after playing with mine. It is a pain to clean but you can get them like new: I have put the seat covers and the straps into the washing machine, in the winter I'll give it a hoover and in the summer it gets taken outside and sprayed with the hosepipe! Having said all of this, my mum has a cheap travel one from toys r us and we get on pretty well with that one too, but he only went in that when he was that bit older and happy in pretty much anything.

I keep mine up all of the time, partly because he would pull it on top of him if it was folded against the wall. And I do have a sink the size of a small boat for the tray

Another vote for the Chicco Polly (not the Happysnack version - haven't used that one). Agree it can be difficult to clean - SarahLeosMum, interested how you got the straps off to put in the machine?
DS has always been comfy in it. Use mostly with tray and up at table. Do always tuck it away just behind corner of dining table when not in use, so he can't pull it down, which would be my recommendation. I've been really pleased with it for use at home - my Mum has a M&P cheapie from Argos which we use at hers and we take along a strap to a chair one for going elsewhere so couldn't recommend it as portable, but can recommend it for use at home. Having said that I did like the look of Tripp Trapp, but we don't have the space to have a high chair up all the time.

I like the chicco polly - as the others have said it is wide when opened but if you have the space keep it.

Totally agree the cheaper model, the happy snack, is a total pain in the arse!

onelittlelion · 20/04/2008 19:56

I really like it but it's v big but it is fab in that it's really ajustable and easy to get lo in and out. It is a bit of a pain to clean but everything does come off. Only prob is I keep losing bits but tat says more about me!

Can you get spare trays for them btw?

SarahLeosMum · 25/04/2008 19:37

Sorry for teh late reply Starshinetiger, only just revisted this thread! The straps come off the chair if you poke them through the holes at the back, you have to twist them halfway to get them through the hole. Hope you can see what I mean. Only the very small corner straps don't come off.

andyrobo237 · 25/04/2008 19:45

We have one - kind o good and bad -straps get very dirty and it is big, but it is lovely and comfy as DS has slept in his a few time - wheels are good, but it is expensive for what it is! I like it, but wish I had got something smaller.
