Leapster or Leapster L-Max - recommendations needed

I've decided to buy one of these for DS (4.5) but, as we are nowhere near a Toysrus or anywhere that has these on display, I need some help deciding which one to go for.

Does anyone have them or can anyone tell me if the screen sizes in both are the same? I know with the L-Max it can be plugged into the tv, but are there any other differences? I know where I can get the L-Max for £60 and it comes with £60 of free games, whereas the Leapster is £50 but just comes on its own.
Help!

we have one you plug into tv (don't knwo if it's teh l-max but it is leapster, came with games) and a leapster - dd2 (nearly 5) uses the leapster much more. hth

thanks bundle. with the LMax you can play on it own or on the tv. As I'll be buyingonline I just want to be sure that, if I buy the L-Max, it will be as good as the "normal" leapster, as I'm not sure it will be used much hooked up to the tv, but seems a good price with the games.

DD1 (5) has a Leapster and loves it, I think only difference is that you cannot plug it into the T.V. You can use L.Max games on a Leapster.

I think you should be able to buy a Leapster for around £45 new. There are new ones on E-bay that sell for about £30.

Dd has a Leapster. We got it on Amazon with I think at least one free game, at Christmas.

It cannot be plugged into the tv, but to be honest she would probably not want to anyway (she plays on the ps with dh and ds and there are only so many tv-based activities I will allow)

We bought the leapster so she can play it whilst sitting around during ds's swimming lesson etc, and for that it has been brilliant. She takes it with her on long car journeys aswell.

I'm buying it primarily for long car journeys, so the tv isn't that important, but the games seem so expensive to buy, so I thought the L-Max, with its free games may be a good buy.

hmm, there do appear to be some good buys on ebay, thanks for that, MrsOTM

We bought the L-Max for DD two years ago and have not yet plugged it into the telly. So I just bought DS the Leapster. Seems just as good.

HOWEVER...

If you do not yet have the console I would actually probably buy the tech version if I were to do it over because I have noticed that VTech seems to have more games in the UK than Leapster does (think Leapster has more games available in US).

good point, AtheneNoctua I'll take a look at games for both before deciding, thanks
