I need a lightweight, easy to fold buggy with hood and brakes, for >£50

I deeply, deeply resent this

I need something strong enough to take dd1 who is not yet 3 and thusly cannot walk the 6+ miles we manage some days.

Yet light enough and easy enough to fold that I can fold it, and carry it, a sling with a baby and a backpack for food/nappies up steps quite a lot, including the world's most rickety railway bridge , while retaining control of two preschoolers.

Ideally >£50

Oh and it needs to be reasonably robust as dd2 will use it eventually.

Thoughts?

This sort of thing?

saadia · 12/04/2008 07:58

I found the Maclaren Volo to be perfect - very lightweight, easy to fold, has a carry strap. The only thing is it doesn't recline. I think it does come with a raincover but we never bought that. And it did break while we were on hols (we had it for about four years)but it did get chucked around a lot so probably would have lasted if we had been more careful.

Furball · 12/04/2008 07:58

This is cheaper

Furball · 12/04/2008 08:00

whatabout a pram for the baby and a buggy board for your dd

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/04/2008 08:01

Pleased to see that you have acknowleged your error. Saves me from finding the most expensive pushchair I can and insisting that it meets your criteria .

Fillyjonk · 12/04/2008 08:09

oh lol you cannot imagine my

dp is going to see this (maths phd) and tease me forevermore . It is the maths geek equivalent of rogue apostrophes, I think

ok yes thats the sort of thing furball. T

I do need a pushchair, its just a long complex tale of nap times and steep hills

I actually have a volo, problem is no brakes and we spend a lot of time on buses with mad drivers -for some of this time dd1 is asleep so I can't just boot her out.

have found obaby one in kiddicare in not-puke pink, which is good.

anyone used one? Do they fold easily? Are they heavy? I can't really find many reviews except from the website selling them

I love my MacLaren Volo..it is SO light- only about 4kgs, easy to fold and push etc. The only drawback with them is that they don't recline, so my DD won't nap when out, but she isn't keen on doing that anyway. Don't know how I managed without it!!

HereComeTheGirls · 12/04/2008 08:20

but I just see you have one already If the non-reclining is a problem, the Maclaren Quest is not much heavier and reclines...

HereComeTheGirls · 12/04/2008 08:20

and the volo does have brakes..well mine does..I use them on the bus all the time - is yours an older version?

Fillyjonk · 12/04/2008 09:05

I suspect so-its nearly 5 years old, so probably

ok altlas obaby looks a bit heavy

what are maclarens like? (I probably CAN spend a bit more, if its worth it, as we are doing this rather than getting a car and thusly saving on petrol etc).

What This

mellyonion · 12/04/2008 09:23

can highly recommend this

is lightweight, comes in a few colours and is nice and easy to push....quite big for an older kiddy too.

mellyonion · 12/04/2008 09:25

oh, btw...i saw this in my local tk maxx last week for 40 quid.....

sazm · 12/04/2008 10:01

i had this one when my ds was 6 months, i used it all the time,it is now 4 yrs old and my sister still uses it for her dd,its still in great condition,
they are giving you the hood and raincover free with it ATM.
here

Fillyjonk · 13/04/2008 18:50

lol

I had a HUGE argument with dp this morning just as he and dd1 were off out. We will not go into details, though naturally it was NOT MY FAULT

Anyway, as a making up present, he came back with a maclaren triumph (on special offer at mothercare, but still)

oh and now he's just made food ...
