Need to get one either tomorrow or Saturday!!

DD is 6 months old

I need one that I can put her in myself and one that is comfy if she falls asleep.

Thanks in advance

I had an ergo and loved it to bits, only online though so if you need to be using it by Saturday you won't get one in time.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 08:21

Thanks ZoeC, I've had a few people mention the Ergo to me yesterday on a different thread I started. But like you say, it's too late to get one now

I'm going to try and get this sorted today, so anymore opinions would me muchly appreciated

The Mei tai is supposed to be very good.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 08:45

The Mei Tai, is that something you can buy in the shops? off to Google.

Ah, is it a front sling? I was looking for one of those back pack slings.

Any natural baby shops near you ? Some sell slings - otherwise you'll have to hit Millets/Blacks and see what they have to offer.
Or post on here asking for any mums in your area with a sling that they'd be willing to lend you.
A MeiTai is really great, and if you were nearer me, I'd happily lend you one.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 10:12

thanks cmotdibbler

I'm going to Milton Keynes a bit later, I didn't realise Millets did slings!

Ours are very old, but we had karrimors. The more expensive one had a framework that meant you could 'sit' babe on the floor in it. V handy. DSs never had trouble sleeping in them and their brilliant for going to places with lots of peole cos you don't have to fight to get the pushchair through and baby gets to see whats going on.
Be prepared for baby drool down you neck and you hair being pulled

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 10:17

did you mean a framed carrier or a soft one?
I think some people might be talking at cross purposes here...

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 10:49

have to confess my DD LOVES pulling hair Solitaire, that's going to be interesting!!

MrsBadger, yes I was thinking more of a framed one, I guess I'm a bit worried about her getting squashed in the crowds with a carrier that isn't framed, also she'd be lower down on my back wouldn't she, so harder for people to see I'm carrying a baby.

John Lewis stock ergos now (they have them in Bluewater not sure if all stores have them but if you are near one you could ring them.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 11:03

I can't fine ergo on the JL website. I'll give Milton Keynes JL a ring and see if they stock them.

the ergo is soft though...

Hi there,

We use karrimor framed carriers mainly for long walks and holidays although we have used them around the shops as well - again mainly on holiday.

DS1 is quite small for his age but we carried him in ours from 6 months to 3.5 yrs.

They are really easy to use as they stand up independently (like a little seat) and you put the baby/child in and then put them onto your back. They come with sunshades and rain hoods so suit every eventuality really.

We walk roughly 8 miles a day on holiday and find them really comfortable. Both ds loved being so high up and having a great view ahead and they have both slept in them on numerous occasions.

Karrimor manufacture professional hiking gear (rucksacks etc) and so are really good at designing carriers with good weight distribution.

We were advised to go to a camping shop and try a few on - with the baby on board so to speak. They do a few styles and different ones suit different people depending on body shape, height etc. Basically you just need to try before you buy to be sure its going to be comfortable for you.

Hopeysgirlwasntbig · 11/04/2008 11:17

Yep, just seen that MrsBadger. So ergo unfortunately no good for what I want it for, which is a shame, because it looks lovely.

Thanks moosemama, there seems to be a fair few people recommending the karrimor. Who sells it? Millets?

OP posts:
Solitaire · 11/04/2008 11:19

We got ours at a camping shop in Ambleside, which is no bloody use unless you live in the lake District

MrsBadger · 11/04/2008 11:23

big Millets will - or there's an Ellis Brigham in MK that should do them.
JL usually have a few - worth ringing round MK to see who has what and making a Plan.

moosemama · 11/04/2008 11:30

They used to be everywhere, but have just googled and they seem harder to get hold of these days. We actually bought our second one off ebay really cheaply as they often come up on there (they last for years and years).

I have found this place:

here

Hope the link works - I'm new to all this!

Karrimor don't appear to have them on their website anymore so maybe they aren't making them anymore.

www.karrimor.com

There are some other manufacturers that do frame/structural carriers such as Bushbaby and Littlelife. I don't have any experience of them myself but they are easier to get hold of (at least on line).

There are a few online reviews of different types available if you google.

Sorry, got to run and get ds2 from nursery now.

Hope this helps.

Solitaire · 11/04/2008 11:34

Karrimor not making them anymore?? That would be tragic cos they were brilliant and last for years. Still had DSs in them at 3.5 years for longs walks.
We've got two in a garage in wildest Norfolk.

Louandben · 11/04/2008 11:37

we have had a macpac (vamoose) one since our ds was about 6m. It has been fantastic and still is, he is now 2.5 and loves going in it with his dad - too heavy for me now!!

Zil131 · 14/04/2008 21:17

We've just got the Bushbaby Elite for our 6 mth DS, intending to continue mountain climbing... However can't getmore than 20 mins from car without excessive screaming causing us the abandon trip. OK round the park / shops... And on return to the car, we get smiles and giggles! Could it be cold air on his face, struggling to sleep, just too young? Anyone had similar problems?
