We are off to Legoland next week, first long day out without the buggy We could take it with us to carry stuff but DD is nearly five & we are trying to encourage her to walk, so buggy has been put away. I just don't know where I am going to hang all the bags, spare clothes, cool bag etc. DH will be like a pack horse all day I think what I need is a cool bag that also has pockets on the outside for purse, phone etc. Does anyone posess this 'perfect' cool bag? If so, have I get time to get myself one before next Tuesday?
If you have managed to get this far without falling asleep, any ideas would be great. Thanks

Have you only got your dd?

Do you really need to take so much with you?

alfielooloo · 10/04/2008 10:15

Have got DS too. We usually take a big picnic, keep us going all day, I suppose I could keep the spare clothes in the car, don't always need them, just take them 'just in case'. I see other familys' with a weeny rucksack & I wonder how on earth they do it I always take loads of drinks too, refuse to pay over a pound for a bottle of water, so they weigh a ton, maybe I need one of those pull along cart thingies, gthat would please DH, puuling it around all day

lol

Well you could get a little rucksack for your dd to carry.
My dd is nearly 5 too and loves having her own bag.

We usually just take a rucksack that dh carries but we do have 2 younger children so have a double buggy.

I'm just trying to think of a shops online that would have what your looking for......

We have tried the 'carry your own bag' thing, but only end up carrying their bags ourselves, then I get stressed with having so much to carry. Might be worth a try though, we haven't done it for a while.

Lol @ packhorse

We have a cool bag thing with plastic plates, glasses and cutlery in, think we got it from Millets. It's not huge and not bulky so ideal but, it has space for a large lunch and all the other paraphenalia that goes with going for a day out.

ranting · 10/04/2008 10:42

And it's got rucksack straps on, so you don't have to carry it iyswim.

alfielooloo · 10/04/2008 10:47

Ooo that sounds good ranting, will have to go into town at the week end & have a look in Millets.

Millets is quite good for that sort of stuff, I wouldn't have thought of them but when I mentioned wanting something like that, dh went in there and got it.

Weegle · 10/04/2008 10:50

agree with ranting - what works for us is one of those picnic set rucksacks but take out all the plates/cutlery/glasses etc. The main body is a cool bag. There is a detachable coolbag-type bottle holder on the side. Then two front compartments for "stuff". All in a rucksack. Loads of grden centres round here sell them.

alfielooloo · 10/04/2008 19:47

Thanks everyone, going to look on Millets website now.

we went to longleat last week - three kids, snacks and some changes of clothes (wet play area) and we had ONE old macpac rucksack. Left the picnic in the car and dh went back to get it when we were ready for it.

TsarChasm · 10/04/2008 19:55

Do you need to take so much?

On days out like this now I try to take food and drinks in packages that can just be thrown away once it's finished with.

I also try not to over do the food - difficult cos my natural instinct is to take a lot - but over the years we've brought so much of it home again.

alfielooloo · 11/04/2008 11:16

Wow Enid, on the ONE macpac rucksack. Leaving the picnic in the car is a good idea too.
TsarChasm, I know what you mean about taking too much food, I always take too much & end up bringing stuff home. Must be more sensible about what I take

I took thin changes of clothes (leggings etc) that folded up very small, three cartons of drink, camera, phone, purse, nappy changing mat with annpies and wipes inside and three fold up macs (millets, brilliant)

alfielooloo · 11/04/2008 12:50

What's your bag like then FioFio?

You sound very organised Enid But that is really all you need isn't it. I don't have any in nappies so maybe that space could be taken up with some fruit for snacks, apples weigh a lot more than nappies though
