I am not very fit (asthmatic) but need to do something at home (when DS in bed)as DH works shifts. I do lots of walking, but need something else. Not a great deal of space but something which will tone me up.

Any great ideas, I have had a look and not sure which are good.

Thank you

I was going to post this very thing - i have the Cindy Crawford and want to buy another couple - Jane Fonda seems an oldie but a goodie and at the moment it's only £1.99 on Ebay. Any other suggestions?

ps who is Zoe Lucker?

I like the Tae Bo DVDs. Fairly lively workout, but if you stick to the basic ones, rather than advanced, it can be a good starter.

I feel pretty silly doing them, but I've not managed to injure myself doing them, so far, and DS1 enjoys watching me do them.

if you're not all that fit I'd recomend either pilates or alexander technique or something like that as it will build your core strength and only requires a minimum of space.

Also used to do the Tae Bo excercise much to dh's amusement.

Just got myself a DVD 'walk yourself to fitness' to get started again after cs 2. I'll let you know how I got on.

I find Rosemary Conley is good. A personal preference, I know, but I prefer to do a video made by someone who has done exercising as a career, rather than a spin off from being a celebrity. Some of her dvd's have a 10 minute section, ideal for building up slowly, day by day.

This dvd is supposed to be brilliant, it has been given 10/10 in alot of reviews, and, if I remember rightly she lost alot of weight whilst doing this.

Callanetics, very old, is extremely effective. Suitable for asthmatics as not aerobic. Will notice the difference within 4 weeks, if not sooner, if done daily. Am thinking of starting this myself again.

MrsBigD · 04/01/2005 10:33

oh yes... callanetics, very good, though I did find some of the exercises a bit weird... one of the non-favourites was... hold on to something in front of you, legs open and standing on tippy toes, then slowly moving pelvis forward and backwards whilst slowly lowering bottom. i found that put a strain on my knees. But some exercises were VERY effective, though I never got to develop the 'perfect peach bum' as she put it in the video - mine's more of a cantalupe

ooogs - will do the dvd today and will let you know

I just had a look at my new 'Total Fitness in 12 mins a day'
It's a fairly simple routine that gradually gets more intense. There are 3 charts with quite a few levels to allow for increased fitness/stamina. What you get is 1DVD explaining how it works and showing you how to do the exercise properly and 1DVD which gives you the beat to do the exercise in with a picture showing which exercise you're supposed to do

I did Level 1 on Chart 1 and it's a breeze, so will do that for the next 3-4 days then step it up to level 2 on Chart 1

I was coming on to post this question, I fancy the Lorraine Kelly one but this 12 minutes a day one sounds good. do you need a lot of space Mrs BigD? I've got a great Jane fonda one for when I was fitter had loads of time & room but now I'm lokking for something quick, easier & won't having me knocking toddlers over cos I've taken up the whole room. Boogie Beebies just isn't shifting these Xmas pounds

jbck - did my second day on the 12 mins a day workout and it starts off very nice and easy. Boogie Beebies is hard work in comparison LOL. But I can see why they're doing it that way: so that the body very slowly gets used to being tortured again especially after the festive season

Had a great laugh as well as dd (3) immediately joined me! The only problem was that when i did the floorwork (not as tenious as it sounds she wanted to either sit on my stomach or my back. Well this is an added weight bonus when doing the 'push-ups' I guess LOL
