Tell me about your Ford Focus - which spec should I get?

My quest for the perfect small 5 door car is over. I test drove a Focus today and loved it. But there are so many different models out there, and I can't work out which one to get. I've read conflicting things about which is best and feel none the wiser.

The one I tried was a 57 plate 1.6 Zetec. .

I guess it depends on what you want ie. air con etc. www.parkers.co.uk do good reviews that compares models, engine sizes and fuel consumption etc.

I have a zetec.. it's nice to drive and runs well.

I have an lx - has most of basic comfort features..had it for 10 years and love it (about to trade it in)

"Trim levels starting from the most basic are Studio, LX, Zetec, Ghia and Titanium. All models get front electric windows and mirrors. LX gets air conditioning, Zetec features enhanced sporty looks and uprated suspension. Ghia has climate control, cruise control and automatic wipers and headlights. Titanium model lacks the cruise control, but gains partial leather and sports seats. The options list is extensive and features satellite navigation, rear-mounted DVD player, electrically-adjustable front seats and pedals, rear sun-blinds and leather upholstery. Cars from 2008 are offered in a re-structured range featuring Studio, Style, Zetec, Titanium trims."

I want whichever is most fun to drive, has best acceleration, and handles well on narrow and twisty pothole-ridden country roads. The dealership told me that I should go for sports suspension, but What Car magazine says standard is better on country roads.

Looking for a one year old (or newer), with air con, cd player, heated windscreen, electric front windows etc. Can spend up to £16K.

sports suspension will give you a bumpier ride, you will really feel even the smallest bumps, but it will make the car handle so much better, and more fun to drive, i love the sports style suspension, but hubby hates it lol(he's just no fun)
we had a 2ltr estate version for a while,it was nippy and still pretty good on petrol, maybe worth considering a td version as they are much cheaper to run,and also cheaper to tax with the new tax brackets.

I've got a 3 door ST
Wasn't impressed when dh ordered it without me knowing, but i love it now. Theres more room to get 2 year old ds in and out than with a 5 door
It accelarates like a dream and handles really well too x

OMG wendyjayb you really dont know how lucky you are, that is SO my dream car,i really need to win the lottery!
OMG its not orange is it? lol

sophierosie · 06/04/2008 21:14

We just got a 2 litre ghia and love it - great acceleration and loads of fun to drive!

MuffinMclay · 06/04/2008 21:30

Wendy - how does that work? I've been insisting on a 5 door.

I've read so much about them (even dreamt about them last night ) but feel no nearer to a decision.
