Hi there,
I need a bit of help with this decision. I am having a baby girl in September and she is probably going to be about 10 lb. I want to buy a sling that does not damage my back and is confortable for her, I will carry her on it for the first 6 months.
Which one do you recommend?
I am sure there is someone out there who can give some advise.
Thanks

Hello,
We used a Hug a Bub and loved it. It was big enough for tall DH to wear as well. Could wear it to do housework in as can bend down and have both hands free. Baby didn't go into a pram until about he was about 5 months. I still use it occasionally and he's 17 months old. The way it wraps around waist and shoulders is quite supportive of your back and very comfortable.
My friend also got one and loved it, but I gave my sister one and she didn't use it for the first 2 months and her baby hated it.

Haven't tried the hugabub but LOVE my close. I'm a bit small and DD is 8 months and is still really comfortable in it.

Is there a sling meet near you where you could try them out?

potxola · 06/04/2008 10:18

I knew I could count on you girls
BustyMcGeeThanks you are the first person that has told me about the Hug a Bub. Whay about the extra lose material by the front? and is it easy to put it together? Do you have to put it together everytime you put the baby in?

IneedsomesleepThanks, I know someone who uses and loves the Close too, but I am not so happy about the extra loose material that hangs by the sides. Do you use the Close around the house too? What do you do with that material? Does it get in your way?

I have a 3 yr old and my plan is to carry my daughter for the first 6 months. She will probably be tall as well as big, I just want to buy the right one . Don't we all?

moby and hugabub are about the same.

BustyMcGee · 06/04/2008 13:01

Hi Potxola,

The extra loose material all gets used up on the Hug a Bub if you or anyone else who uses the sling is large. My DH only has a small bit of material left over when he ties it, I have huge dangly bits that I tuck into the built in pocket. You tie it again each time you use it and you need to as the material stretches a little bit with use. It comes with a DVD so you can learn to tie it, and it does get much easier with practice.

"I have huge dangly bits that I tuck into the built in pocket"

LOL!! What a fabulous quote taken out of context... [snigger]

Flame · 06/04/2008 13:08

I loved my hugabub, but haven't tried the closer.

DS still goes in it on my back occasionally now (a small 2yr old)

Also sniggering with soupy

I did find my hugabub a good gauge of how much weight I had lost though based on dangles

PortAndLemon · 06/04/2008 13:11

Had a hug-a-bub with DS three years ago. It was fantastically comfortable but I found it a faff having to retie whenever I took him in or out, and having to retighten, etc.

This time round with DD we have the Closer carrier -- just as comfortable, but far less faff. You can't do a back carry in a Closer, though, so something more hug-a-bubby may be more useful as the baby gets older.

Huge dangly bits

DJCod · 06/04/2008 14:11

none
bioth have alamringly shit names

SoupSledgon · 06/04/2008 14:17

You should be embarrassed that you can tuck them into your built-in pocket, Busty...

Flame · 06/04/2008 14:53

What do you want them to be called Cod?

claireybee · 06/04/2008 15:19

If you are planning to wear it a lot why not go for both? That way you still have one to wear while the other is in the wash. I haven't used either of those but have a calin bleu and a moby, they are wrap slings like the hug a bub and I love them. Can wear ds (nearly 4 months) all day without feeling any strain

potxola · 06/04/2008 16:06

Brilliant advice ! More please!
This is getting complicated girls. There are so many like the Hug a Bub: the Moby wrap and also the Kari me. I can't see the difference between those two.
I'd love one you can tumble dry as well. If I can't find one like that, I'd have to buy two of them, so I can wear one while the other is drying in the line .

Pot, sorry I haven't replied before. Yes you can use the Close around the house, in fact I made lunch for some friends with it on. In fact have had DD in it for almost everything from the school run to washing the car.

With the extra material, we have these new things around here called "knots" so I just tie it in a knot over my bum.

When DH wears it there isn't much extra material as he is so much bigger. We really wanted one that would fit us both.

And I love the dvd too, iys really helpful.

Are you any closer to making a decision yet, or just more baffled
