Lightweight bugger which isn't a bone shaker??

Please help me! I have an 11 month old son and a Maclaren Triump which I am thinking of selling as it doesn't suit our purposes.

I need a lightweight buggy suitable for town and easy to fold and chuck into my car, but my local town has a lot of cobbled streets. The Triumph seems a real boneshaker on the cobbles. It also doesn't recline as far back as I'd like and even though my son is only 11 months he's kind of hanging half out of it and looks really uncomfortable.

I was thinking about upgrading to the maclaren techno xlr. I really like that fact that it reclines flat (or almost flat) - but would it be any better over the cobbles than the triumph? I also see that it's a few kilos heavier than the triumph - is it pretty heavy to pick up? I'd like something quite comfy for him, but without it being too heavy.

I was also considering the Jane Energy but have heard some negative reviews about it and also the UK importer (if there's any problems with it).

Any views?

I'd go for something with air filled tyres, or t least something with bigger tyres to absorb the impact of the bumps

Love the title

CountessDracula · 01/04/2008 23:13

LOl at bugger

I have cheapo Argos buggy for zooming around with baby mindee, no cobbles round here, just badly-maintained pavements and roads.

No help at all really, just very taken with your title

misdee · 01/04/2008 23:13

you need soemthing with air tyres

catski · 01/04/2008 23:14

Ha ha - just seen my freudian slip in the title (don't know how to edit posts ) - I of course meant light weight BUGGY, but choosing one does all seem like a bit of a bugger to me.

Got the techno xlr, my DD who is 12 months is very tiny and didn't want a bone shaker. Its good, fine to chuck in the car etc. With regards to weight it does have a handle rather than a strap (or mine one does....) which is less handy than the other Maclarens. Not sure whether it would deal brilliantly over cobbles though....

I find it ok too pick up (and I am a 5ft weed) but I can't lift it with one hand.

lydiathetattooedlady · 02/04/2008 20:08

hi! ive just got the silver cross dazzle which i love and so does my dd-it is slightly more expensive than the xlr (i think?? my sister inlaw has that one!) but to me it was worth it. i too live in a very cobbly place and it doesn't rattle my bones, it has suspension on all 4 wheels, it is nice and light to push and get in and out the car-not as easy to push one handed as my zapp was but my daughter hated being in it and screamed and to me its more important she's comfy than being able to push one-handed!

Upsidedowncake · 02/04/2008 20:13

Snort. Anatomically impossible surely.

My Maclaren Techno is lousy on cobbles, I'm afraid.

BexieID · 02/04/2008 20:13

Micralite, although the front wheels may get caught on the cobbles.

onelittlelion · 02/04/2008 20:13

Micralite you can tip onto the back wheels a bit for cobbles if need be and can push one handed. It doesn't recline flat tho but is a hammocky seat and ds slept fine in it at that age. Might be worth a look?

onelittlelion · 02/04/2008 20:14

snap ;)

naomi83 · 03/04/2008 12:10

have you checked out the nipper 360, ts only 7kg but has three large wheels. it lies flat as well, i don't have one, but i've heard great things about them

catski · 03/04/2008 18:49

Thanks so much for your recommendations - I will check them all out. Thanks also for the scoop on the maclaren techno xlr, which doesn't look like it's going to suit our purposes...
