previous thread

I have looked into it and i think i can get a budgeting loan to replace it. So far nothing from freecycle so i am thinking a new one is the best way to go.

So, what do i need to look for in a cooker?
Double oven? Dan oven?

No connection for gas (i don't think) plus have no experience of gas cooking except in a Haven caravan!

Need a price to put on the form.

Where are you? I have a fantastic double oven I can let you have, I as going to ebay it but would much rather you have it.

tortoise · 30/03/2008 21:51

Are there any shops near you that do reconditioned/nearly new appliances (usually have rows of fridges outside them)? You could then get a good cooker for about half the new price.

Looking at Comet website, the cheapest electric cooker is under £150 (but very basic), £250 gets you a separate oven and grill (like your Beko), £350 to £400 gets a double oven with fan oven. Would pitch it somewhere in the middle if I were you.

Then when you have the cash you can look at second-hand/reconditioned if you want to.

Thanks.
Not sure about any shops tbh. Can look into it though.
Am thinking i don't want to go too cheap this time. Last 2 have been cheap rubbish!

Have you tried requesting one on Freecycle? That might work?

Also I'd ring your nearest big branch of John Lewis and ask about their ex-display items, the staff tend to be lovely, so if you explain you're a bit stretched financially they may well bend over backwards to help. They sell off all ex-d electricals at half price, and they still have a long guarantee - and JL after-sales care is great. I say that because electricals and gadgets do go wrong, and sometimes secondhand can cost more in the end than a sale-price new one. And they don't ever sell cheap rubbish, either. Even their cheap ranges are simple but good quality.

Did not want to say but Beko are not renowned for quality, had a very disappointing Beko dishwasher that lasted only weeks.

I've had two secondhand Cannons and they have been good cookers (gas), would get another without hesitation.

Thanks Qally. I will look into john lewis. No good if it needs collection though.

Yes i realise Beko aren't the best. Couldn't afford anything better!

None yet pedilia.

Haven't checked freecycle yet today though!

John Lewis online have an Indesit with free 2 year guarantee (double manufacturer's) and free delivery for 199? Don't know if that's any good to you:

I just think the guarantee is vital with big ticket electrical items, and from a reputable company. We've had JL engineers out to our dishwasher, oven and washing machine within guarantee, and it was absolutely worth buying from them as a result.
