What do you suggest to remove sticky stuff??

Dd needs to take an empty bubble pot to her ballet classes - I have removed the label only to be left with the sides being very sticky - I have tried washing up liquid but doesn't remove it - I know you can buy special stuff from places like Kleeneze and Betterware to remove this sort of stuff but I didn't really want to spend alot and I am not convinced that this stuff would work - was thinking of buying some surgical spirit, white spirit or meths - anyone know whether any of these would work - anyone have any other ideas?

Soak it for ages in a bowl of water.
Nail polish remover?
I'm sure dad used to use somethig like lighter fuel to remove beach tar from our feet as children! And the we washed them so as not to be a fire hazard.
The sticky stuff remover is, I'm told, absolutely fab though.

Thanks Bobbins - will try the white spirit, may invest in some of the sticky stuff remover but I need this for tonight and I have been trying to clean it since the weekend!!

I think nail polish remover works too if you've got some of that handy

Baby oil followed by detergent to remove the oil.

That may be easier than rummaging in the garage for white spirit that I am not sure is even there - at work at the moment - will have 15 mins to get this pot clean, do dd's hair and get her to ballet - it's her viewing day so I have to be there!! Does anyone else find this time of year a bit of a nightmare - so much to do, so much to think about - and I always think of myself as an organised person!!

Oh, yes. I forgot my own advice on the front door stuck thread.
If it moves and is not meant to, use duck tape, if it's supposed to move and doesn't, use WD40.
I see you use WD40 too, Prufrock! :-)

Furniture polish works wonders...a tip from my obsessive dh, who hates sticky things being left on cd cases etc!

WD40 is great for taking off labels from bottles.

Wow - thanks for all the information - managed to get the majority off with nail varnish remover - will try again at the weekend. Last night was the last ballet lesson of this term so I have no pressure!!
Jemw - during her ballet lessons they use various things, the bubble pot is for a little dance routine in which they pretend to be blowing bubbles, they also use a tiara which helps them to keep their heads straight and a scarf with which they do various dances and they use to encourage focussing their gaze at one point - supposedly to stop them getting dizzy when doing turns etc. This is all new to me and I struggle with all the ballet wording as I never went to ballet and I am used to spending my weekends standing on a muddy sports field to support my son!!
